    macalter - 2010-01-06

I produced this report to screen. Criteria was changes from 04 Jan 2010 to 04 Jan 2010. Didn't get quite what I expected.

    1. 04 Jan 2010 19:36:50
    2. -"- 21:54:48
    3. -"- 02:55:51
    4. -"- 02:24:23
    5. -"- 16:31:36

Why aren't the times in order, descending or ascending? By chance, I'm working in INDI order so latest date would have given me the last INDI number I modified. (Give-or-take the odd one out of order numerically.)

Also, except for the first line, the date is obliterated by my username "admin". I only see 2010 portion of the date and the Hebrew version.

What criteria did you use for SORT?

    Last change.

I see this same behaviour when sorting by "Last Change". It appears that the sort process does not take into account the time. The dates are sorted. The other sort functions of "Name" and "Birth Date" appear to sort correctly.

Is this "fixable"? I know nothing about the report's coding but would that mean date and time must be stored separate somewhere to do a sort on both parameters?  My understanding was this report would help me know where I left off so I'd not need the Recent Changes block which cannot be sorted by user. (I display it on my own Portal.

Mac - not sure about 'fixable'. perhaps its been fixed (I don't know), but my report, using the "HTML" option is perfectly sorted by date AND time; and I have no text overlaps. There are some strange display elements on the PDF version though.

You did upgrade to ver 4.2.3 didn't you?  Completely?

Stuart - same question - is your issue on 4.2.3? Only the reports have all had a major make-over in this version

kiwi: I ALWAYS print to web, have no printer, even when I did, didn't need paper. My PGV is 4.2.3 basic + RA +Themes and two files for the Bug Report fix.

Mac, can you email me a screen image please.

Like Kiwi, mine are all in date and time order, descending, if sorted by Change Date. On the report (HTML), that column head is grey to denote the sort. Check yours.

    Stephen:
Column "Last Change" is in dark grey. However as noted, I cannot read the date as my username is on top. WIth criteria set for one day, the sort is _not_ in time order.

        01:46 is 1:46am
        20:50 is 10:50pm
        18:14  is 6:14pm
         11:11 is 11:11am etc, etc.

definitely not descending or ascending order (no idea what it should be but hopefully descending)

    Oops, 20:50 is 8:50pm

I don't have Mac's problem with my User name, but I can confirm that my Change Report in both PDF and HTML is not sorting by time. I'm using the released V4.2.3.

I seem to remember there being an open bug report for this.

Mac and I have sorted out her "overlapping" text problem. It was actually quite severe, but caused not by PGV, but by a large font size set on her screen. Lowering the font size removed the overlap.

The sort order issue remains though, and judging by that bug report Mark referred to, its been around since 2007!

At first I wondered if it was related to the Hebrew dates Mac has entered in some way, as neither Stephen or I have any of those. But Stuart reports the same problem, and as far as I know he has no Hebrew data either.

Could it be a DB setting of some sort?

    > Could it be a DB setting of some sort?

No.  The change events are easily found and sorted from the pgv_dates table.  Sorting by date is simple to implement using the standard report framework.

To sort by time, we need to fetch the full record, extract the time, and write a custom sort routine to sort by both date/time.

I guess I'm not the only developer who has never used this report - hence it is probably a bit "under the radar".

NOTE: _I_ do not enter the Hebrew dates, it's part of the configuration setup I chose for dates. If Stuart has problem w/o Hebrew dates then I don't have to turn off to test.

Greg - just to emphasise - the sort DOES work by both date and time, for Stephen and me.

But it doesn't for Mac and Stuart, yet we are all running 4.2.3.

Stephen and I however do use the latest SVN version, so has anything changed SINCE the release of 4.2.3 that would have fixed the problem?

My comments were based on my memory of the original bug report (from 2007?).  I haven't looked at this bug recently.

4.2.3 included a large number of changes to the report framework.

IIRC - this is two separate reports.  Pending changes and recent changes.  Is the problem with both?

Unfortunately I don't think any of us have any pending changes to test it with, so can't say if its an issue with both.

Just for the record, I do not use Hebrew dates.
