I have my site all up and running and started creating my Family tree.
I made one gedcom file with my last name and one with my moms maiden name.
My question is........ Do these gedcoms in phpgedview cross refrence each other or should i just make one big gedcom with everyone in it?
example, my mother is under my dad's name as the wife, but if i click on her name, will it or can it, automatically navigate to her maiden name gedcom file with the rest of her family lineage?
making multiple gedcoms by surname would be so much easier to organize and navigate through, from what i've seen so far. Unless it doesnt reference the others i've made.
just wanted to know before i add alot and have to go back through it all!
thanks alot. Jimmy

John Finlay talked a little about this previously and had some ideas for including continuation links. This is still an open issue for me too. I have considered adding a link in the birth date field or the birth place field. It is doubtless a needed feature so that pgv family trees can take advantage of the World Wid Web concept. But it has not yet been implemented in any standard way.

I will use the link method in the birthday or somewhere for now, I like that idea. :-)
I guess the big picture is what i had in mind, and crosslinking them on a larger scale.
I will set my sights a tad lower for now ;-)
Thank you all for your feedback!

I haven't ventured down this path yet because I haven't had the time to make a good system level design yet and consider all of the implications.
There are still many questions about how to approach this that need to be answered, such as ownership of data and privacy, before we can start testing anything along these lines.

You have to wait for the pro to answer this :) But i don't think they cross reference like you wish them to do.

Hi Jimmy,
There is no cross referencing in PGV. Anything looked for or done in PGV is in regards to the current chosen Gedcom file.
As for navigation, I do think that PGV gives you many ways of navigating through the family lineage.
You can search by surname or search for surname in both the individual and family list.
As to your specific question if you click your mums name it will bring up her maiden name gedcom, the answer is no.
The reason for this is that people can have different Gedcoms (which are not necessarily of the same family) in the program.
If you have any questions, let me know.
Regards,
Roland
