    Heike - 2010-12-10

    Hi,

I'm using 3.3.8 (I know, somewhat old, upgrade not possible at current webhost) and
upload my gedcom from the german program Ahnenblatt,  gedcom-standard shown as 5.5.1.

    My problem:
Notes and Sources are not being shown, though available in the Gedcom.

    Example from my file:
    0 @I52@ INDI
    1 NAME Stephan Wilh. /Budde/
    1 SEX M
    1 RELI rk
    1 BIRT
    2 DATE 5 MAR 1869
2 PLAC Styrum, Mülheim an der Ruhr
    1 CHR
2 _GODP Stephan Winkels, Anna/Anne Winkels
    2 DATE 29 MAR 1869
2 PLAC Styrum, Mülheim an der Ruhr
2 ADDR vermutlich Kath. Altstadtgemeinde St. Mariae Geburt
    1 DEAT
    2 DATE 1934
    2 PLAC Oberhausen-Sterkrade
    1 OCCU Bergmann
    1 FAMS @F36@
    1 FAMC @F32@
1 NOTE Adresse Stephan Budde zur Zeit der Taufe: Styrum 148, Styrum Mülheim an der Ruhr
1 SOUR Ehekartei 7147 Stadtarchiv Mülheim an der Ruhr
    2 CONT Sterberegister Nr. 65

If I know the cause, I might be able to edit my gedcom-file before uploading.
    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Heike

Shared NOTEs were not handled by PGV until a later version (4.2+ IIRC). Although in the DB, PGV will not know how to present them.

Your quoted SOUR does not meet the GEDCOM standard structure  1 SOUR @Sxxxx@ and therefore can not present either.

Actually, the NOTE format is correct for normal notes, which this is.

Where are you not seeing the Note?  It's quite possible that the program just isn't looking for Notes on the pages you're looking at.

The SOUR format is, as Stephen notes, not according to the GEDCOM standard.  It should appear in the GEDCOM as another NOTE.

    Thanks for the background-information.

When I click on a person, I can choose between
personal facts and details / notes / sources / media / close relatives.
When I click on notes here, I don't see any.

I'm a bit confused regarding the sources.
@ Stephen: Do I understand correctly, that SOUR should have in addition @Sxxx@, Sxxx being the number
of the source (S001, next S002 etc.)?
@ canajun3eh: when it should appear as another NOTE, how should I change this?
Maybe you could show me in editing the example above how things could work?

    Thanks,
    Heike

    The lines:
1 SOUR Ehekartei 7147 Stadtarchiv Mülheim an der Ruhr
    2 CONT Sterberegister Nr. 65

    should be:
1 NOTE Ehekartei 7147 Stadtarchiv Mülheim an der Ruhr
    2 CONT Sterberegister Nr. 65

As I've told you in another post, we CANNOT provide much help on PGV version 3.3.8.  You MUST upgrade if you expect us to provide assistance.  If necessary, find another service provider.  (Why is the current one not able to support newer versions of PGV?)

    Thanks for the source-information.
I'm afraid it won't work though, as I have already persons in my gedcom-file containing NOTE and CONT that are also not being displayed at the web.
Neither in notes nor in sources.

Thanks anyway, I'll live with that until I've been able to upgrade.

    Regards,
    Heike

    Just for info:
I edited my gedcom-file and changed all  "NOTE" into "TEXT".
The result is, that my notes are being displayed now :-))

    Regards,
    Heike

After I changed into TEXT for one person, and I saw the information under "notes", I changed
as stated above. Unfortunately, I don't see it any more. I see the contents now under "text" in the
personal facts and details. Apparently the system reacts differently when deleting and uploading
completely anew or when importing. As 3.3.8 is not longer being supported, I'll accept and close this
    this thread now….
    Regards,
    Heike
