I have just added my daughter's daughter to the family tree. How do I add the father? He is my daughter's partner but they are not married. When I try to add him as father he appears as husband even though there is no marriage event. They would not like to see that.

I have read a topic that suggests I should not add her as a daughter as the first step. Also posts about using _NMR. (Not sure how to do that) Is this any different to adding a father when there has not been a relationship? I am sure it has been asked many times if someone could point me to the usual actions I would appreciate it.

    Thanks.

PGV (and most other GEDCOM-compliant software packages) can't create 'families' without referring to the spousal relationship of husband and wife, although some display 'partner' when no MARR event is displayed and both contributors of genetic materials are known. Else, the family record is created with just one person as parent, whether male or female.

To add _NMR as an indicator that they united but didn't marry, you will first have to add it to the list of tags for the dropdown menu, or simply RAW edit the family data you created when you added the child to your daughter.

    1 WIFE @Ixxxx@
    1 CHIL @Ixxxx@
    1 _NMR
    2 DATE
2 NOTE Kate and Sammie had a one night stand that resulted in little David. Despite this rather unorthodox start, they remain good friends and Sammie visits regularly…
