The family branch I'm working on is from an 1899 source. The source contains individuals who never married:
    1. those who died unmarried
    2. those who as of 1899 were alive but not married
I know there is the Gedcom tag for marriages - 0 (don't have PGV open to be exact), but what about those in category 2?

    1. husband/wife deceased, no children
    2. husband/wife alive, no children as of 1899
There are families where one or both spouses died without children "no issue"; I know there's the Gedcom tag for children =0. But what about those alive but without children as of 1899? How do I differentiate category 2?

Anal retentive? Why would you wish to record a 'non-fact'. Genealogy is all about recording facts - known, proven, substantiated, researched, sourced facts. While notes and research assistant give you some measure of acknowledging the need for more research to determine the truth, and dates allow a bit of fudging with BET and ABT, still, these are facts not intended to be guesses, but solidly based determinations of factual information.

IOHO, there is no need to notate that there is no issue frrom a family as of a certain date, although as a fact, you may choose to make a NOTE on the FAM record page.

Why's it anal retentive? If it means I know which families to look for children and which to see if they married after 1899? I don't find it anal that the writer chose to indicate such in the book :) It's this particular branch that's of concern. Because the possibility of finding more data is possible given the prominent position of this family branch.
I don't do it for the "main branch" gedcom.

You missed the point of our response - obsessiveness. Genealogy is FACT, not fiction. If something happened and you can verify it, record it. If something has not yet happened, but might or might not, you may wish to annotate your GEDCOM with a note or research task, but you should not be recording a non-fact, hence why there is no TAG for that which you inquired. A book is certainly not a GEDCOM and most contain supposition, guessing, loosely collected facts and family lore and mistakes. Use it for what its worth. We already supplied you with suggestions on how to notate your comments.

BTW: from wikipedia - "The term anal retentive (also anally retentive), commonly abbreviated to anal, is used conversationally  to describe a person with such attention to detail that the obsession becomes an annoyance to others, and can be carried out to the detriment of the anal-retentive person. The term derives from Freudian  psychoanalysis."
