Currently I have our family tree set up on my nephews server using PhpGedView 4.2.0. We have been running the site for almost a year and have had very few problems… apart from this one recurring nuisance. The site is private, non searchable and restricted to close family only to view, while I double checked each member that signed up.
The problem:
Occasionally I get my ip banned by the hosting web server (about 12 times in the past year) when checking or updating the site as admin. It is not an unworkable problem, as my nephew simply requests my ip address be removed from the list, but I cannot put my finger on why this keeps happening. The reasons for each ban have been because the server assumed I was attacking the site by opening multiple http connections, e.g. 547 simultaneous connections. This week I was banned again for 401 simultaneous connections.
Each time this has happened I have been checking the MANAGE MEDIA page with DISPLAY ALL THUMBNAILS ticked.
I usually use Firefox to browse the web but I think each ban has come about while I was using Internet Explorer 8 (I think).
So I counted each thumbnail (354) and added each small graphic on the header and it was approx 400.
Could there be any link between say IE8 having to simultaniously download 400 small graphics and me apparently attacking the server with 400 simultaneous http connections?
I have a dynamic ip address with BE Broadband but my ip not changed since I launched the site last year. COMODO Firewall/Anti virus suite.
I suppose my question is: why would I appear to be launching an attack on the server only when on the MANAGE MEDIA page page and not any other?
My nephew works in IT and is totally confused as to why this happens only to me and only on his server.
Thanks for listening.
