My father died 15 nov 2009
My cousin died 26 Nov 2009

My father shows as the most recent death, NOT my cousin, 11 days later?

The only other thing I can think of, is I know my dad's burial info, so I put in his 4 Dec burial info.  But his 4 Dec burial shouldn't make his death later?

Lew, there are a couple of possible explanations.

The most likely is a known bug related to the burial you mention. There is code that is designed to use burial information as a proxy for death if the death date is nor recorded (same for christening/birth). We have recently found that in stats it is being used even when the death IS known. It should be fixed in time for the next release. The short term fix would be to remove the burial date.

One other alternative could be timing. Blocks are cached, so if you added your cousin's data after your father's, then it might not be shown in the current cached version of the stats block. You can clear that be re-setting the cache, from the "Customise this Welcome Page" option on that page.

On a personal note, I'm very sorry about your father and cousin - a bad time for you I'm sure.

Glad to hear that is a known problem and being fixed.

Since I am on the subject of the sequence things appear in, what is the default sequence for items in the This GEDCOM's Favorites part of the page?  Seems like no matter what I do, it is "Stuck" on the sequence.  It doesn't seem to be sorted by the person's name or the I number?

I would like to have a choice in the sequence they appear but don't seem to be able to, or at least I didn't find the right option?

    Thanks again,

    Lew

The Favorites, both on the Welcome Page and the personal Favorites on the Portal page, are sorted by your personal preference, of sorts - that is, the order in which you enter(ed) them. There is no current feature set to change sorting, either by alpha, AJAX or INDI-ID number (Individual Identifier, for some). You can always use phpMyAdmin, enter the Blocks and renumber/arrange them at a date later than entry. Also, while we're talking about it, there is no feature for revising the 'blurb' or descriptive of the Favorite other than changing it in the DB too. Rather than mess with the SQL, I've found it easier to delete them and reenter in the fashion that I prefer.  Good subject for an RFE, IMHO.

Hiya…I re-entered the bottom name and it stayed on the bottom.  Something other than entry sequence is altering the sequence they are displayed in.  I deleted and re-entered both of the favorites in hopes of reversing the order and neither deletion or re-entry changed the display sequence?

It is easy enough for me to re-write or copy and paste the info and re-enter the favorite, which I did, but it didn't change the sequence.

You have not said whether you are using the SITE - FAVORITES or your personal ones. In particular, the SITE Favs are cached, so if you didn't clear your caching of the site, it will remain as previously displayed.

Actual order retained in the pgv_favorites table in the DB. The "fv-id" order determines the order for the Site and personal favorites. Change the last on to a high number, above any existing ones, then renumber the remaining ones to the order you wish, reinserting the high-numbered one where you want it.

Stephen,  I did say which Favorites they were which you must have glossed over, I said:

"This GEDCOM's Favorites" which is what the home page version of the favorites is called.  When it is your own favorites, it is called "My Favorites".

Thanks for letting me know about the SQL option, but at this point that is doing more than I wish to risk doing :)

The order of appearance applies to both places, only the caching IIRCC, applies on the Welcome page. Did you check the caching issue? If you delete a favorite and it remains, then it would imply that the cache was not cleared.

    Just as an aside….

One reason there is no configuration option for the favorites list is because it would be over-kill ( in terms of priorities to work on), as it is something that most users establish once then leave alone.

My own list of GEDCOM favourites is just 4 people (my grandparents). I set the list up years ago and have never touched it since.

Once you know it is the order of creation that determines the list sequence (and you have the caching issue understood), I found it easiest to simply delete all, then create them carefully in the order I wanted. Once done, you can forget about it.

The problem with a config option is that it will still straight-jacket your choices, unless its a much more complex, ajax based, drag-n-drop system  - which I believe is not warranted here (personal view). In my own case I wanted each pair of grandparents listed in order (GF1, GM1, GF2, GM2), so neither alpha, nor numeric sorts would have helped.

Of course, if someone feels strongly enough to write a re-sorting option that works, I'm sure it can be used and would be welcomed, but I'd hate to see this taking away from important and scarce dev resources.

Just a note on the RFE idea, KosherJava had already submitted an RFE that was thankful for the favorites option, and the comments section - both welcome additions to PGV's feature set, and requested that a method to edit the comments be added. I've added my 2-cents on that request and mentioned the possibility of a method of reordering the favorites.
    RFE is posted at:
    https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1267653&group_id=55456&atid=477082

Kiwi, while I agree that once I established mine, I've never changed them, it is not readily apparent as you configure the gedcom that you should enter them in your order of preference, and the inability to edit the comments (something I have done a couple of times) without accessing the SQL is also not apparent.

It seems that after you make a chance to the page that it "regenerates" the page.  It seems that the page is pretty "busy" on a refresh not to be actually updating the page.  I am guessing since I deleted and added back both favorites it ended up like what it was originally, which wasn't how I wanted it, but I never suggested it was worth of a RFE.  I was only wondering why it didn't seem to work in a logical way, either alpa, I #, or in sequence posted….  I only had one favorite, and when i added the second favorite, it went to the bottom vs. the top.  So apparently going to the bottom is default and to switch places, I have to delete the top one and the re-add it for it to go to the bottom?

Not worth the extra step now…just so I know how it is supposed to work so I can work around the inability to change it otherwise.  There are so many options here, I just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing some option menu somewhere.

    thx
