Yes, I really do love phpGedView. At least, up to 2.5x. Since then, I've been installing and uninstalling. In index mode and in mysql mode. Finally, tonight, I had it working as it should (mysql mode). Until I hit the Edit Language button, after which phpGedView went dead again (meaning: blank screen). I tried to re-configure, but was told that I had a bad database connectivity which should be checked. I tried to run phpMyAdmin, which seemed to be out of order also.
In case you hadn't figured out for yourself: I'm totally ignorant about database management, php, etc. So I'm really stuck with directions like "check your database connectivity." Any help (low level, if possible!) would be really appreciated!!

Rebooting my server has some effect. phpGedView still doesn't run, but I can get an opening screen in phpMyAdmin. It won't let me in, however. Something wrong with user authentication, apparently, but I don't know what.

At this point it sounds to me as if you have a serious problem with your MySQL :-(
PhpGedView and phpMyAdmin are not connected to each other, but both applications require MySQL to be operative, and since both applications has a bad database connectivity, it places MySQL as your prime suspect.
At this point I will suggest you drop the MySQL option for now, and instead try to install PhpGedView in INDEX MODE - and then see if we can be of assistance in getting your PhpGedView to work.
Sorry :-(
