I tried to link to a remote source (another GEDCOM file on same server) and it didn't work (Unknown Unknown was the result). Now I have a SOUR record in my GEDCOM file. How do I get rid of it?

You'll need to delete the SOUR itself from the Source list page; plus manually remove any reference to it from INDI records.
As per the other post - have a read-up about GEDCOM linking on the WIKI. It does work, but there are a couple of limitations.
Can't comment on why your attempt didn't work without a lot more detail about the entries you used.
