Two images questions.
1) We want to add media to ID's, but if the ID has only one image, it appears to be selected and can't be "turned off". This one image is usually a family shot, or close relation and is not appropriate as the PRIM image, but appears despite our best efforts.
2) Where we have added multiple media items, the first is always the _PRIM, even if we designate a newer item with the "Y" for primary. (We don't find any notation in the documentation what to put in the "box", but perhaps we overlooked it.) Therefore, we must delete, then readd all the items that are before the image we wish as Primary.
What are we doing wrong?

I think I am the last person to work on function find_highlighted_object() which handles _PRIM and _THUM. The way it is supposed to work is that _PRIM N should turn off any/all images.
Which PGV version are you using? I just tried with the latest version from CVS, and when I set _PRIM N on all images, I get the next INDI's picture.
If the image is a family shot, you should put it in the family record.
Can you email me the OBJE part of an INDI with this problem?

As a novice, where do I capture the OBJE part of an INDI?
And how do I add pictures to the "family" record, instead of the INDI's? Should I use BBedit to open the Gedcom and find the INDI, copy the OBJE portion and send it?

On the right side click on "View GEDCOM Record". That gives you a small text pop-up that you can copy/paste.
I am not sure how you put family pictures in the family record. When you "View Family", you don't get the Media tab like you get for individuals. In BKedit I have a pull-down for switching between the records, but I haven't finished implementing it yet...

The "N" notation removed the picture from the record INDI, but it remained within the media record as we wished. GREAT! But how can you change the _PRIM setting from Y or nothing to N without readding the media and deleting the original. There is no PRIM notation when you attempt to EDIT a media object.

Guess the addition of the _PRIM field for editing wouldn't hurt. Future program upgrade?
Your GDBI v.8 Edit is nearly flawless. Thanks for the automation of the Birth/Death/Marr designations.
Do have a problem linking to an existing person when the system discovers a similar name and we concur. The "add a ?" text seems confusing to us and we seem to generate a new individual INDI instead of linking to the existing INDI when we use SELECT and not NEW.
Lastly, can it retain several server addresses for selection, so we don't have to type in the URL again when we change from editing a different server or a local server vs a public URL?

Thanks for your comments on GDBI. I will look into the 2 problems. Since GDBI is a separate project, if you have any more feedback, please post them to the GDBI forums under:
The problem you had linking an existing person was a serious bug, and keeping a list of servers was a good idea, so I fixed those 2 things and released a new version of GDBI.
This version also integrates Taurus FamilyTree for the Ancestor button. It gives you an explorer window on your tree.
John:
Should the "Add Media" window _PRIM field be changed to an Option Field, with YES or NO (NO being the default), instead of the simple and somewhat confusing fill-in-the-blank box? (Help does not indicate what symbol or alpha-character to enter).
Also, when editing a media item, can the designator reappear so you can easily change from Y to N or N to Y, depending on your "mood", and requests from relatives.

I am using v.3.01 - no CVS stuff yet.

I have seen that, too. If the original record did not have _PRIM, you can't add one when you edit the record.
I'll take this opportunity to plug my new release of GDBI (BKedit). Version 8 has options for setting Primary and Thumbnails.

Stephen,
Eventually, yes such changes should be made. But for now it is not a high priority.
