    Hi all,

For home-use I have PGV running on my webserver, including the researchlog. Now I want to start using the RL as a "to-do list" for work to be done in the field.
When I visit an archive, I have my laptop with me, with PGV in combination with the PHPLancher on it.
Before leaving, I export the latest GEDCOM from PGV and import it on the laptop.
There's only one thing missing.....the ResearchLog!

My question: is there an easy way to get the RL from the PGV-server (MySQL) to my laptop (index mode)?

    Thnx!
    Boudewijn.

The easiest way would be to plug your laptop into a network and use the research log on the web.  Many libraries are installing public access points for laptop users to be able to connect to the web.

The other way would be to install MySQL on your laptop and use PGV with MySQL in PHPLauncher and then either copy the database files up to your host (your host probably won't let you do that though) or use a tool like phpmyadmin to export your mysql database on the laptop to your database on the net.

I agree the first option would be the best. In the NL however, very few archives (I never ran into one) have web-access points, so we have to rely on other methods.
The way it is possible now to get the RL on a laptop, through export and import, is timeconsuming and not very elegant. So for the future I would still like to have a better way. Moreover, I think it would fit nicely in the future view of the RL stated earlier.
        What do you think?

I think that we could implement some import and export synchonization routines in the research log.  They are not likely to make it in version 3 but if you file an RFE then we won't forget about it.

If we make it possible to import and export a CSV file and on import check for common ID numbers for the logs then I think you would have a fairly elegant solution.

I would take the export a step farther and allow CSV export AND import of users, favorites etc (perferably 1 file for all settings)

I agree that would be a very satisfying solution. And since our wishes ans ambitions keep the world going, there won't be any objection against a later release. I'll post the RFE.

        Thnx
        Boudewijn.
