I have uploaded the files , set permissions and when I point to the folder as instructed get the following message
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare imagecreatefrombmp() in /home/xxxxxxx/public_html/phpgedview/includes/functions/functions_mediadb.php on line 2190

This should have been posted in the Help or the Discussion forum instead of Translations..
You should NOT be installing PhpGedView version 4.3.0 . Instead, you should be using version 4.3.1 that you can download as an SVN snapshot.
The topmost post in the Discussion forum contains all the information you need. The only thing that's missing in these instructions is that you need to click on the "SVN Snapshot" button after you've clicked on the link in that post. That will start the download of version 4.3.1 .

That's because I'm the only one doing any sort of support of PhpGedView, and I just don't have the time to update the "downloads" part of the site. John Finlay, the original creator of PhpGedView, is equally busy with his university teaching.
It's a LOT of work to create all those downloadable files.
