    Currently:
I am running the phpgedview 2.61 Beta 2
I am using Family Tree Maker Version 11.0 and I do a export to gedcom: Version 5.5 tried fts, ftm, paf same results.

    Problem 1:
The Social Security Numbers along with other facts are appearing in the Place Hierarchy list. I set it up to not display the social Security numbers but they still appear I ended up going into the gedcom and deleting all the Social Security Numbers manually. When I looked inside my gedcom file it was formatted like this.
      1 SSN
2 PLAC xxx-xx-xxxx    This of course was the ssn number
      2 SOUR @S04567@
      3 DATA
4 TEXT Date of Import: Nov 24, 2003

Is their something I should be doing different to prevent this from happening?

    Problem 2:
when I do an export from family tree it does not export out any of my graphic information. I looked at the site you use an example and exported their gedcom file to my hard drive and took a look inside. It had a layout like
    1 OBJE
    2 FORM gif
    2 FILE C:\Program Files\FTW\Pictures\geneology\pic_1.gif
    2 TITL family picture
    2 _SCBK Y
    2 _PRIM Y
    2 _TYPE PHOTO

I went through and manually added out a bunch of pictures to my gedcom using this format and it worked but if I export a new gedcom from my ftm program this information is not going to be in the new one and I am back to square 1. Is it possible for this information to be stored into a table then as part of the build process it would import this table back into the gedcom or that the program would use the table as the driver instead of the gedcom?

       Thanks, Gabriel

Unfortunately, I am not very familiar with FTM but it doesn't conform to the GEDCOM 5.5 spec.  A social security number should be encoded like this:
      1 SSN 123-45-6789
      2 SOUR @S1@
      3 DATA
4 TEXT Date of Import: Nov 24, 2003

When you export your GEDCOM most programs have the option of to enable or disable the multimedia OBJEs.  I don't know if FTM has this option, but it might be worth looking through the help files to see.

It would seem the someone needs to write an FTM GEDCOM cleanup script to fix these types of errors.

I had written the Family Tree Maker support board and they said that they do not store the obje information in or as part of the gedcom export.

Is anyone else using FTM and found a way around these two problems?
          TIA, Gabriel

          Problem #1)

The only way to get around the SSN# problem (I asked the FTM staff as I use FTM v.10) is to export your file to a ged com file then IMPORT it back into FTM. You then can scrub certain facts during the import process (choose which facts to import/not import).

After that you need to do ANOTHER export and you will then get the clean file.

This annoyed me and I had long annoying conversations with both the FTM tech help and the message board folks. Nobody over there seems to understand how redundant and annoying this truly is for those of us that don't simply want to conform to the Rootsweb familyfile nonsense.

Problem 2) I have no idea. Sorry.

yeah you could do that, but then you are actually dropping out your data. The other side to this is that it not only affects the social security number but all of the facts. If you look at your icon to display places you would expect to see locations but in mine I found birth announcments, dates & times of events. I just went into the database and the gedcom file and deleted out what I did not want to see, but everytime I upload/replace a my gedcom I have to go through this process.

Thanks for your reply I am glad to hear that you talked with FTM even if they are going to do nothing.

              Gabriel,

I'm unsure what you mean with the display icon issue. What I was referring to with the import/export issue was that you can specifically select the social security number to be scrubbed while leaving all other data intact.

I simply have two files. One that I use for research and one that I put online. At some point (when FTM takes their heads out of their rectums) I'll have one but I have to make due until then.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Has anyone tried importing their FTM gedcom file into PAF or another program and then exporting it again to see if that cleans it up some?

I have sometimes had problems with Legacy - when I do I pass it through Roots Magic and then re-export from there - never have a problem then
