1) What version do you use
2) What version of PHP do you use?
3) Which "Search and Replace" are you trying to use? The one from the SEARCH menu, or the batch update, 'Search and Replace'?
4) Precisely what are you trying to do (from which S&R) and what is the result you see? -Stephen

Yes, it doesn't work, but then I have NEVER used it as it was always quite dangerous. The Admin Batch Update tool, Search and Replace, is far more stable, flexible, and doesn't change every instance automatically.
My personal choice would be to disable it for fear it would make unwanted wholesale changes from which only a complete restore would recover the data. -Stephen
