Still stuck on pgv4.1.4 - private server

At the moment I have a rather "open" family tree - free information without asking. I've now got requests from a family member to make his part of the tree hidden for guest users. How do I set private settings for his part of the tree in one stroke…?

Just point me in the right place and I'll figure it out.

    TIA, Kent Knudsen

    Hi Kent,

PGV has a lot of privacy functionality but the best solution really depends on the specifics of what you're wanting. Have you privatized living individuals, or is that what this is about with this particular user?

As I recall from my PGV initial install, I've set guests only to see persons dead or above 100 years old. For some reason I can't see any privacy settings in the PGV4.1.4 administration page.

The requesting user wants all data related to him privatized and that's a lot of dead persons. I just don't what to go through every single individual GEDCOM just to make that particular person hidden.

I do have access to the MySQL db, so if that's the way, I can manage it, but would rather do it in a more frontend-like manner.

Sure, I can access the privacy-settings file directly on the server but have no idea what to change.

4.1.4 is pretty old and full of holes. You should update if you can.
Navigate to:  GEDCOM ADMIN > PRIVACY  and review your settings. I'm sure your relative doesn't want all the dead people blocked or removed, but rather information that leads to his living relatives. (I've got a couple of these relatives.) The information on dead people, particularly in the USA, is readily available everywhere - as is a good deal of data on living persons - phonebooks, listings and services like http://www.intelius.com, http://www.whitepages.com, http://www.ancestry.com and many state records.

To block a family. Use the link noted above and block the Fxxxxx and Ixxxxx from view to all but the main admin. It only takes a moment. You may also wish to change the general privacy setting of 'show private relationships' to NO.

Stephen, if family Fxxxxx is set to be viewable only by the main admin, does that cascade through all the descendancies too?

I don't think so, but it isn't difficult to test it, is it?
