Hi .. I'm new to PhpGedView, need help on adding new users and how to import FTW file from my current family tree software.
I can log in as admin, but when I created/added a new user, I couldn't log in.
Thank you very much.

Hello, Irene:
Your existing off-line software appears to be Family Tree Maker.
You need to tell FTM to export your database to a GEDCOM file. This will then be acceptable as input to PhpGedView. You need to be sure to select the correct options for that export:
File type: GEDCOM (*.GED)
File name doesn't matter, but you should make sure there aren't any blanks in the name
When you click the "save" button, you'll see additional options for the export:
Destination: FTM
GEDCOM: Version 5.5
Character set: ANSI
"Indent tags" checkbox not checked
"Abbreviate tags" checkbox checked
Note that FTM wll not let you export to a file name that already exists in the destination directory.
When you're exporting to a GEDCOM, be sure to ALWAYS use the same file name. That way, the Import or re-import into PhpGedView will work much better.
When you're importing (or uploading) into PhpGedView, you'll see messages about the file not being UTF-8 and that PLAC records have errors. You should always let PhpGedView fix errors it encounters.
When you're re-importing after re-uploading an identically named file to one you imported previously, you must let PhpGedView replace existing database information, and you have to keep media information. That's because Family Tree Maker does not properly support media (pictures, etc.) linked to people, families, and sources. As a consequence, the GEDCOM produced by FTM doesn't contain any media stuff at all. You have to keep what you already have in the database.
When you create/add a new user, is the "Approved by admin" checkbox in the user's visible-to-the-admin account details checked? Without that checkbox checked, the user can't log in. You also need to set the rights of each user. Normally, you just want to give people "access" rights - no on-line editing.

Notice that the "Access level" field above is empty. This indicates that there is nothing in the database.
You MUST upload and import a GEDCOM from your Family Tree Maker program first. After that, the user logins will work, but you'll still have to establish the correct "Access level" values for each user.
Normally, you start a fresh site by going through the Install wizard, which will allow you to create the main admin userid. You can always add other users with admin rights later. In step 8 of the Install wizard, you're presented with a number of options. You should select "Upload GEDCOM". This assumes, of course, that you have successfully exported your data from Family Tree Maker before you start.

I think also, that normal users won't be able to log in until you, as the Admin, have established a database that ordinary users can view.
Thank you very much Canajun!
For "Approved by admin" - I don't see it on the page of "Update User Account".
The "Access" right just give them the ability to 'look' only?
Thank you ..
Will try the import soon.
Oh .. sorry for not looking closer. Under the page User List, there is a col with the title "User Approved by admin" .. the accounts have check marks.
Thanks
Irene
