I imported some data that has superfluous REFN tags in it (used differently by different software). I'd like to strip them out, but there are hundreds of them.
Is there a way to edit the raw GEDCOM for the whole tree?
Is it safe to download, manually edit, and then upload as a replacement? Will that preserve all the work I have done with media and other annotations?
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
Do you wish to delete or do you wish to simply HIDE them. Hiding them is easy-peasy, just use privacy settings for the gedcom, edit, and use GLOBAL settings on the REFN tag, hide to all but admin or hide to all.
On the other hand, if you wish to delete them, better to do it in a good text editor (BB-Edit/Text Wrangler on a Mac) or a PC edit program that doesn't add BOM's, etc. You could GREP the deletion or simply find and replace globally.
An export and reimport should not be a problem, but you will need to do opposite what most of us do (I think) on the media as you use external URL's. I think you need to SAVE media links, but I could be wrong. Perhaps someone else will answer this.
