Good luck. The only thing that can manipulate these encoded files is an older version of AFT. They can be renamed to .FTW, but some data will not be transferred. They are NOT text files and NOT GEDCOM files. More modern versions of the software output in other file formats. http://www.ehow.com/facts_6083377_file-extension-aft_.html
Perhaps someone here will offer to convert for you, but you will then be exposing your GEDCOM data to other parties.
