My webhost provider claims that my phpGedView site caused a cpu usage spike on his server and had suspended the account. Does anybody have an idea how the site can cause such a usage spike and how it can be remedied?
Thanks,
Jon90

This question really belonogs on the HELP forum, not here on the Open Discussion forum. That said, an import or reimport can put substantial stress on CPU usage, and some ISP's can misinterpret that activity. Otherwise, I'd say start looking for a new ISP. Yes, PGV can be very consumptive, but hardly abusive to resources if configured properly.

How large is your tree? Did you do anything unusual on the day you supposedly caused the usage spike? Since I only have a smaller tree (14,900) I haven't seen any server spikes regardless of what I have done with the tree.
Without knowing more, I would guess your host is mistaken, has a very small server, or didn't feed the hamsters that day.
Not to blow my own horn, but I offer PGV compatible hosting at a reasonable price.

I actually did nothing on the day in question. The whole issue is
suprising and my tree contains only 4000 entries. I have a suspision that the ISP is playing with me. Do send information on your hosting service. I may be interested.

I was probably out of line to "blow my own horn" and I don't want to step on any toes around here regarding selling my services. My hosting business is my name on here…. adding a .com or .net will get you there :) If there are other hosting companies on this forum, they should pipe in too!

I found two web hosting links on the page you referenced. One went to a site that made no mention of hosting, essentially a dead end. The other link was probably what you were primarily referring to and it seems to be a dedicated application hosting option vs. a more traditional "open" hosting service on which multiple applications could be installed? I realize a lot of users are happy having a PGV-only option, I like having a photo gallery, a blog, PGV and other options on my domain.
Other than providing a PGV compatible server for hosting the domain, what other value does a dedicated application host provide? Would be curious what the additional cost gets you? If there is a FAQ or something that compares traditional vs. dedicated hosting it would be interesting to see.
Thanks!

oops… I missed one…another one that looks like a dedicated install but was surprised by the limitations they imposed. So people have several dedicated solution hosting options as well as traditional hosting on PGV compatible hosts.
I didn't find any obvious link to discussion on the topic. Perhaps Jon can find the link and come to his own conclusion.
Thanks
