I am pleased to annouce that version 4.2.1 of PhpGedView is now available for download.
Note that the sourceforge mirrors can take up to 24 hours to be updated, so if your local mirror does not yet have it, please try another, or try the central repository.
v4.2.1 is a maintenance release, and contains roughly 350 updates to v4.2.0. The main new feature is addition of support for note objects "Shared Notes". These allow a single note to be associated with a number of events/individuals.
PhpGedView is brought to you by a dedicated team of volunteers. As well as our small team of developers, there are translators, testers and "power-users" who help out here on the forums and investigate the bugs and feature requests.
Together, we've made PhpGedView the number one genealogical application on the web. Thanks to all of you!
We're already making plans for the next release, and are currently working on;
1) an update to the report-engine, to allow a much wider range of formatting options.
2) a data-entry tool, to allow easy entry of census data, etc.
3) an update to our database interface layer, to fix the sqlite2 compatibility issues.

Looking good, and a special thanks to everyone for the extra efforts, particularly in getting the reports working (much ahead of expectations.)
Where can I find some specifics on the census, etc. data-entry tool?

<<Where can I find some specifics on the census, etc. data-entry tool? >> There are none, its not released yet.
As Greg said, what is included in this release is a "shared notes" feature, which will be used by the census data entry, but can be used now for anything else it is appropriate for. There are discussions on it in the forum.
The census data entry is for the next release, we hope.

KUDOS again for a prompt update and thanks too to the entire small group of dedicated programmers/developers and testers who have enabled the production of this excellent product. And FREE to boot. I'm thinking VISA - priceless.
Hope a pat on the back will suffice for now.

Just upgraded and I would like everyone to be aware of how grateful I am for all the work that has gone into this release of PGV. I am a very happy user.
In passing I would like to comment that despite the benefit of being warned about DB collation issues and, we thought, taking the necessary steps to avoid the issue, we didn't and we experienced a number of problems. After several hours of removing and restoring DB files and making many edits on various files, we managed to get the site working. At one stage the execution time was over 157 seconds to simply bring up the advanced search screen. Although my son did most of the work, I think that we achieved the good final result by editing the collation settings in the 20Gb plus DB backup file, then restored the DB, then reimported the Gedcom.
Despite this relatively small hiccup, I am very grateful for all of the work that has gone into PGV. Well done.

Does the download button on the main page need to be changed? (Says 4.2)
