I have been hosting and looking after PGVWiki since it's inception but due to some changes I don't think I will be able to keep doing this from early next year. So I am looking to see if there is anyone out there who would like to take it over. Someone who has more time than I have been able to give to it over the last year or so.
It is using about 1.5 to 3 Gb of traffic a month. The size of the site is roughly 260 Mb and the database is 8 Mb (compressed). There are a number of different language wikis going on but the main one is the english version. Even if they need splitting up then we can perhaps find people who can better monitor those non english ones. Just need to talk to John about that though.
If you are interested then I can be contacted as laurie/at/mydigitalhome/dot/com/do/au
I believe that SourceForge now has support for mediawiki built-in. I'll look into seeing what it will take to get the wiki hosted on the SF servers.
So I looked into the SF installation of MediaWiki a little more to see if it is a viable option. To get the data in, we would have to do an export/import from within mediawiki. There is no direct access to the database or the file system. Will this be a problem?
You can access the wiki here:
After you access it once your, user will be created and I can give you admin access.
The disadvantage of the SF hosted app is limited control. The advantages of using the hosted app are integrated security (all SF users will automatically become Wiki users), managed maintenance (automatic security upgrades, etc.), and all project related sites are kept together.
What do you think?
I have looged onto the site and can look at transferring the data across. The problem will be there are currently 4 language wikis so I will have to look at the best way to look at the non english ones. I can begin by looking at moving the english one across.
My problem is time in the new year not hosting issues. Shifting it will put it in the one place but having someone or people oversighting will continue to be an issue but the wiki should be safe.
How much time would you say you spend on wiki administration?
Hi, if you are changing - why not change the hosting too? Sourceforge is so extremely slow and uncomfortble - I would like to suggest to transfer all the stuff to google or / and github, everything needed is there! Also a google group would be a real benefit for the project - these sf forums are a real pain… Google also has a good code review tool online - seems like this could be a great help in development. But also github could be a boost for the project! THANKS!
I really love this Project and want to help, when help is needed. Why not build up a new Page with Forum and Bugtracker. SVN can be hosted here on SF.net.
If noone whave enough time, i can host the Wiki and try to maintain them.
