Suggestion for themes

As a designer I'd like to be able to change the layout of the pages more easily.

The themes are great, and one of the reasons I fell for this script!!

But it would be great if the images could be moved to the themes too somehow, if it's possible! I could change the toplinks-icons easily and just set a path in my themes folder. But the rest of the icons I'm not sure what to do with yet... Some of them are just html-shrinked versions of the toplinks (which looks horrible with my new oldtype-pixelicons), and I don't know if I should replace them in the images folder or tweek codes in the other pages (iieks) or what to satisfy my over-all-design needs...

Just a suggestion for the future, and I realize it is not top priority since there are so many important functions that is needed... But maybe it's easy to lift out the images and change this (it doesn't look easy to me, getting a headache trying to find heads or tails in the mass of codes), so I suggest it anyway... *grin* Maybe you'll get a whole page filled with "custom themes" from your users if you let us change the whole look!

    Keep up the great work!

    /Siss

I'm actually working on a theme right now that sets up the toplinks in a different manner.  Since I am using my own graphics, I just created an images directory inside my theme directory, then for the image path, use

      themes/theme_name/images/image.gif

The one problem I've had with this is the lines used for the timelines... these seem to be hardcoded in the main image directory.  I'm considering a set of variables pointing to common objects, then a file within each theme which can be used to override the pointers.  Will be checking the code, but it should be an easy modification to make this work.

Oh BTW, "hi!"  I'm really excited about this project because it looks to follow similar lines to what I've been trying to write, but you've certainly gotten a lot further, and have a better format than I did. :-)  I'll be sure and post any code modifications I make for your consideration within the project.  Hope I can help!

Oh I forgot to mention... if you want to see the theme I'm working on currently, check http://www.sourpuss.net/tree/

Most of the graphics are things I've modified from Google images.  The dotted line graphics are things I started making, but decided I didn't really like.  Still looking for something to replace those first few though.

      Hi Siss and Jeff,

Someone else also recently asked to have the images in the themes.  When I orginally designed the themes, I didn't want to do this because it would bloat the download with a lot of extra images that were all the same.  But I can see the value of doing it and plan to include this in the next release which I am frantically trying to get out ;-)

Your theme looks great, Jeff.  I am glad to see people taking the time to customize the themes.

Since I've now managed to hide my living persons I dare posting my URL too... *grin*

Thanks John for all the great efforts you do for us!!

I get this "Lord of the Rings"-feeling with this script. I've never read the books, cause I always said I was waiting for the films. And the films are great!
And I haven't put that much effort into finding an application that exports in HTML-format (even if I did buy the Swedish application Min slkt, that has a pretty output of the html-export...), thinking there would soon be a way to publish the gedcoms directly in a database with search abilities etc... My 4 year wait seems to have paid off!! *dancing and smiling*

Siss - checked out your page, and I must say I *really* like your grapics!  Wish I was able to create images like that.  If nothing else, you've given me some ideas on how to proceed with completing my set.  Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks Jeff!
I'm glad I could help inspiring you! I've been involved in icon making since 1995, and used to run a site called IconParade (as you saw in my URL). But I stopped when MacOS X arrived with their new icon formats. They are great, but somehow the magic in creating 32x32 icons, trying to squeeze a message in that tiny place, was lost in the new huge icons with funny shadow (from the viewer instead of from the top left corner och the monitor)...
