I have a .GED file with about 150 people, and have found a site that matches an ancestor and will give me a .GED with their ancestors back a four or five generations, thus saving me from having to manually enter the information.
However, I can't readily see a way to "graft" this .GED tree onto the existing .GED that I have. Is there some way to do this?
I had a look under the individual's screen (which was where I thought it might be, but can't see anything), and also under "Manage GEDCOMs and privacy", there is an "Add GEDCOM" (which doesn't have an upload box so I'm not sure how to get my file in there), an "Upload GEDCOM" (which starts a new separate GEDCOM from the looks of it), and "Import" (which overwrites the current GEDCOM).
Is there any way to do this? There probably is, but to an uninitiated newbie it's not obvious.

I wrote a module called gedmerge.php to do this. You can download it from the patches tracker.
It's not particular pretty/friendly and has some limitations, but it does the job.
Read the comments/instructions before using it. Particularly the bit that says make a backup before you start :-)
If you get stuck with it, let me know.
There is a second solution to all of this. You can keep both gedcoms separate, and use the "remote linking" facility. This might be more appropriate if you are likely to get an updated copy of the other gedcom at some point in the future, of if you might want to send updates in this gedcom back to the other person.

I tried this and it ran without errors, but I can't see that it had any effect.
Background:
I have two GEDs from family members that were working with FTM on (mostly) different branches of the family. We would like to take branches from GED-1 and attach them to GED-2, making GED-2 the sole family GED. From the description, gedmerge.php was designed for this.
Thanks for any help!
PS: I would be willing to help document this function.

Oops - sorry I forgot about approving it.
Now I see:
Unable to find family with ID F00012
(Which is the family for the gedmerge.php target.)
