I developed an add-on for Firefox. This add-on performs a search with the text selected on a web page when you right-click on this text with the mouse . The search is executed on the phpGedView site that is configured using the preferences of the add-on. The search-page can be opened in the current window, a new window or in a new tab.
It is still experimental, so you have to log in to access this add-on.
If you try this add-on then please let me know what you think of it, and if you think of any additional features.

I've installed it. It seems to work OK, but I had a major problem for a while trying to figure out what it was supposed to do, and how to use it. I think you need to write a bit more description about its purpose, and how to use it.
I 'think' I've figured it out now though, but correct me if I'm wrong. I can select (highlight) almost any word on any page, right-click, and select "New PGV Search tab: " " , or "New PGV Search window", or "Search:" It then carries out a PGV General Search and shows all occurrences of that word from anywhere in my PGV site.
I could of course achieve the same thing by typing or "copy/paste" the word into the general search box in PGV's page header, but I do see some benefit in the right-click option.
Apart from that, you do need to be very careful selecting (not clicking-on) a name or word that is also a clickable-link in PGV or elsewhere (and there are a lot of them).

Thanks for your comments. You did use it in the way I intended it to be used.
There was indeed some work to be done on the documentation side. It is just a first try to see if I could build an add-on for Firefox.
I updated the description on the Mozilla site and also uploaded some more images to illustrate the use of the add-on.

Johan,
thank s for this nice addon ! Very useful.
I've installed it and works as designed - if i choose "New pgv-search tab" it opens up a new tab and changes to the search.
But if i choose "New pgv-search windows" it ran into an error with the following text:
Die Dateien unter jar:file:///C:/Program Files (x86)/Mozilla Firefox/chrome/browser.jar!/content/browser/www.familie-helms.org/search.php?action=general&topsearch=yes&query=Dietrich+Helms konnten nicht gefunden werden.
Perhaps you have an idea?

Christian,
That is strange. I did test it here and it seems to work OK. I will do some more testing on other systems. But can you check if the path up to browser.jar is correct?

Johan,
how can i check the path?
C:/Program Files (x86)/Mozilla Firefox/chrome/browser.jar is fine
!/content/browser/ - i asume it is a command ? and the www… itself is working, of course!
if i can check for more, please give me an advise

Christian,
I did a quick check on Google, and there are a number of reports that state that the Ask.com toolbar could be causing this. Are you using this? If this is not the case could you try to see if some other toolbar/plugin/addon is causing this by disabling them one by one?
Regards,
Johan

Johan,
there are still some problems with cooliris addon installed and multi-language support of phpgedview.
I just deactivated each and every addon except of phpGedViewsearch. Also, there is no additional toolbar activated nor installed!
same result - the new tab action works fine, the new window action fails!
if it is helpful - i'm trying with ff 3.6.3

The link didn't take me to the page. What category is it in, what is the name for searching?
If you search for phpgedview you should be able to find it in the Firefox add-on directory.
