I'd like to somehow indicate individuals on my pedigree so that when coming forward from a known ancestor I can easily pick out which child is on my pedigree. Is there an idiom for this? I know an asterisk indicates something, since it underlines the name. I could use last name capitalization, but I've been following the custom of capitalizing last names.

The beauty of many options is that you can sometimes make your own rules. The asterisk is generally used to denote the "call" name, so John Paul* Jones appears as John Paul Jones and he usually went by the name Paul. I also use the asterisk on the last name when there are SO MANY Hampton's (for example) I can't keep track of which ones are in my direct line. It will throw in an occasional sorting error, but nothing of consequence.
