A small quirk, when i am logged on as admin, refreshing
the welcome page in my browser (firefox) sends me to
the MyGedView Portal page, kind of a nuisance when
editing the welcome page and you need to refresh the
page to see the results

There must be something wrong with your FireFox configuration.

FF 1.0.7 on my W2K system doesn't do this, and earlier
    versions never did either.

Exactly WHAT do you do to make the page refresh? I just
click on the blue double circular button, 3rd from the left
    in the FF Navigation toolbar.

update on this: I have since noticed when i am signed in,
any log on or refresh takes me to the My PhpGedView Portal
page, so i now assume this is set as default behaviour, and
possibly not a bug but a default behaviour

Is there any way i can change this in the gedview/site
options, or is it hard coded?

    That is correct.

On my site, if I have a session open and then launch another
copy of the browser and then access the site, I'm taken to
the Portal page. This even happens under these circumstances:

Browser copy #1 logs in, and then leaves the site to go to
Google, for instance, without logging out.

Browser copy #2 connects to PGV, and is immediately taken to
    the Portal page.

This is caused by the way cookies are handled. There's no
differentiation between browser sessions. They all share
    the same login cookie.

I don't see how this behaviour can be changed.
