#2744 Burial w/o Death -> (on the date of death)

Tim Hockin

I have a number of records with burial dates but no death dates. when I input them as such, the string "(on the date of death)" gets appended to the date. But I didn't enter a date of death. I could infer the year of death, I suppose, but i don't see any reason to.

Proper genealogical notation would require you to enter a DATE of DEAT as BEF (D of BURI) or BET (DATE 1 and D of BURI, assuming you have another DATE tag association). This would not be a supposition, as obviously the person was not buried while alive (in most cases). PGV adapts to your failure to make the entry by inserting the verbage. It may seem like make-work, but it will make for a cleaner GEDCOM and impose less calculations onto PGV, speeding up the data processing.

Couldn't PGV just recognize that condition and insert the proper "before" clause? You know, make the software handle the "make work" rather than the human? Same fore birth date wrt christening, marriage, etc?

In other words, have a mode where PGV *always* stores a birth and death date?

I think I agree with Tim.

For events before death, we display "age at event" only when we have DoB.

For events after death, we should similarly only display the "xx days after death" when we have a DoD.

This bit of code has been bugging me for a while, too.

    Fixed in SVN.
