and the mediaviewer page still shows the "last changed" cells in the table, despite me selecting the option in the config not to show "last changed" dates.

The "show last changed" option in the GEDCOM configuration applies to _lists_ such as the Individual or Family list. The information shown on the Media Viewer page, the Personal Details page, the Family page, etc. is simply a print-out of the various Facts associated with the page in question.
There's already a means of restricting the visibility of the CHAN fact. Look at the Privacy configuration. If you configure the Global Fact privacy so that the CHAN fact is hidden, things should work OK for you. Note that you don't need to hide the Fact Details when you hide the Fact itself.
The "Show last change" option in the GEDCOM configuration is independent of the Global Fact Privacy option in the Privacy file. This means that even if the Global Fact privacy option is set to hide the CHAN fact, the Last Changed information will appear in lists when the "Show last change" option in the GEDCOM is set to "yes". This is probably an error -- Logically, the Global Fact Privacy option should take precedence.
OK ...
I have added CHAN to the Global Fact Privacy (SSN was the only item there already), and like SSN I've set up both "Show Fact" and "Show Fact Details" ... but unlike SSN, I've hidden these even from Admin.
I've saved the config.
I've checked I have the GEDCOM config, in Display & Layout, Hide & Show, "Show GEDCOM record last change date on lists" is set to "no".
I've reimported the GEDCOM.
And still I have "Last Change" and "by" on this page
http://dxradio.demon.co.uk/pgv416pre/mediaviewer.php?mid=M76&ged=hattam.ged
and they're still there after I've logged out, so it's not a "admin logged in" thing.
Is there something else to change?
