media.php would be very useful for admin if two changes were made:
1. Blank filter means show all (not show nothing), and the show all button clears the field.
2. After making any change to any media, make it stop clearing the filter field and showing nothing.

Wes, not sure if I understand your query correctly, but believe the display was changed to default of "show nothing" because of the way the whole media manager works. If, as many people do, all media are stored in a single folder, then each time you open media manager, or at any change EVERY media item is loaded into memory and displayed. That makes it incredibly slow, even impossible, to use. Very frustrating if you want to search for a single item, or go to a different sub-folder.
So, whilst I could agree with yor suggestion, I doubt its a 'bug' as such - and the solution is probably a complete re-write of the media handling functions of PGV, which I think are very very much needed.

OK, I'll buy that point. With hundreds of items in one dir, it might be uncomfortably slow. I find it not bad with about fifty.
So, I'll revise my suggested feature (maybe it should have been a feature request):
1. Blank usually means everything (no filter) in other places, so for consistency, let's make the default "-N-O-N-E-" (actually written in just like that), and if someone actually has a picture with that string in the name, c'est la vie :-)
2. When the page is reloaded, pass the filter value to it, so that the user doesn't have to keep re-entering the same filter.

Yes, I totally agree with those ideas - although I still think it would be nice if we couold have a better media manager completely. Somthing more like one of the purpse -made gallery products. I wonder if its practical to embed something like Gallery2 (although I hate its bloat), rather than just have it as a connected module?

For the most part, I like the current media handling.
For media.php, I'm not sure that slowness is worth worrying about,
because only the admin is allowed to use media.php, and it only displays
media that are not linked to any GEDCOM record.
