#2221 [3840] Memory blown

Paul Blair

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 37 bytes) in /home/xxxx/yyyy/WWW/phpGedView/includes/person_class.php on line 1760

This occurs on welcome page, seemingly while figuring most common surnames and given names.

No such problem before SVN.3840

And it also popped up with:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 35 bytes) in /home/pcug/pblair/WWW/phpGedView/includes/functions_rtl.php on line 138

Paul, not sure what range of svn updates you have just moved from, but around 3805 there was a glitch. If you clear your server cache and re-try you should find its OK, at least that worked for me.

If the problem is preventing your Welcome page from loading, you can append '/?DEBUG=1' to the end of your url and disable the cache.

    Hi Nigel

The problem is in the given names table - remove it from the welcome block, the problem goes away. I can live with that.

I had tried clearing the cache before I posted, but the problem continued. Which SVN?....ah, hmm, it would be about 3840 (this morning is 3844, so it more or less fits). I guess I had used just about all versions between 3805 and there without problems.

What I really need is an SVN with rollback!! :-)

The given names table requires loading the entire gedcom into memory.

Due to some restructuring currently in progress, PGV is using a little more memory. The situation should improve with the next round of changes, over the coming days.

I am also preparing for some database changes for 4.2, which will dramatically improve the performance of name searching on given names.

Some of my recent changes should reduce the memory footprint a little further.

The most-common surnames code has been rewritten. It no longer needs to fetch every indi. It should not need hardly any memory now.
