I just found (by a chance/mistake), that my server lets me save two the same file name differentiating only in case of letters. So on th server I have (which is not possible in pc):
xyz.jpg
Xyz.jpg
But PGV does not know how to handle this, it refused to show almost all my media files. When a checked was done, I got something like "media file @Mxx@ is missing" even it was there.
I have found that PGV handles file names with space in the name (eg "xy z.jpg") well but doing chech with WARNING level it says eg:
0002952[[1 FILE media/kazimir/stefan zachar.jpg]] invalid data; see OBJE @M14@
I have not tried yet how PGV would treat files names with central eu letters like "ščťžýáí".
But I think it would be a good idea somehow to prevent such errors. Thanks

The case sensitivity of file names is documented, and is not an error. This is the way the *NIX world works. Microsoft Windows and servers based on Windows are the ones not following the "rules".
As far as I know, there's no problem with Central European (or even Greek, Arabic, or Hebrew) letters in file names so long as you're not running a server on the Windows platform.
When PhpGedView is running on a Windows-based server, it's supposed to translate file and folder names between the UTF-8 character set used internally in PGV and the Windows character set used by the Windows file system. I can't confirm whether this translation works correctly -- I don't have access to a Windows web server.

One thing that I noticed (and maybe need to reconfirm) is the incorrect handling of apostrophe's in filenames.
e.g.
