Do you have to duplicate the whole installation to allow for this? Thanks.

You have to duplicate only the directory called "forms" which sould be inside of your installation directory.

Okay so once the directory is duplicated then what do we do to go through the steps of creating the new form??

Anybody have a legitmate answer for this? Unless I'm misunderstanding Musawir, simply duplicating the Forms folder isn't going to solve anything, I'm afraid. Since phpFormGenerator doesn't have options for creating additional forms and following the original steps will only overwrite the existing form, the only visible solution is a second installation. And that doesn't jive with the whole "up to 100 forms" line they're touting.

hmm.. I'm afraid I have to say you are not just ignorant but even pressing on the fact that the information given to you (by the creator of the program!) is wrong. Duplicating the "forms" directory solves this problem completely! I will not take the time to convince you, but atleast have the common sense to read the news section and try out the latest version which was released 2 days ago and it does exactly that! It simply automates the copying process so the user doesn't have to.
And lastly, who in holy hell is touting "up to 100 forms" ? Can't you read? or are you simply stupid and just want something to bitch about? The program claims "up to a 100 form fields" ! the keyword being fields! The number of forms you can build is unlimited!

Creating a new forms directory IS NOT the answer...

I just started using it today.

        Here's my solution...

        1. By default the form is named "form1.html"

IT WILL OVERWRITE THE PREVIOUS FORM!!!!

It does not continue with "form2.html" which would be great.

        SO.......

        1. I create a form using the online system
        2. I login to my server and go to the "forms/forms" directoru and rename "form1.html" to something else "registration.html"

        PRESTO!

Each time you create a form, rename it. The next time to create a form with the online system, it will name it "form1.html"

IT WILL OVERWRITE THE PREVIOUS FORM!!!!

        Hope this helps!

for God's sake please stop spreading wrong information. Just renaming the html file will not solve the problem! The form has many parts, it includes a form processor file (process.php) which is different for every form! Furthermore, for forms that are using the filebased database system and the admin portal, those files are also needed for every form! The method I prescribed is the "best" way to do this, I know because I "wrote" the program for godness sake!
Lastly, this shouldn't even be an issue anymore! The latest version does the copying automatically so you don't have to ... so no overwrites, no nothing! Just use the latest version v2.09

You're verbally abusing us, because you created a sub-standard form generator?

If your script was solid, different people wouldn't keep having the same problems.

Fatastico and all others should drop you like a hot potato.  I am reporting you and your VULGAR, ABUSIVE language so maybe they will...  Clearly, you are not a professional.

Maybe we should create a petition form that would ask for the "creators"  removal..  But then again.  The form would probably not work.

I think the creator needs to apologize to the users.  I understand your hard work and frustration at times when answering questions.  But please have a little paitience.  After all paitience is a virture.  At least it is for all the gods I know.

Forgive my spelling I am only human.

This is outrageous.  As a hosting company that recently implemented Fantastico I must say I am sorely disappointed.  I have emailed the makers of Fantastico and cc'd the owner of this scrtipt with my concerns.

I received a complaint from a customer already regarding this thread and we have only had Fantastico implemented for approximately a week.

If you want to continue with this script, I would highly suggest you learn some basic business practices of common courtesy and professionalism.

      Appalling, really.

Here is the deal. You all are banned from using the program. I could care less about what you think .. "crappy program" .. "doesn't work" ... etc etc. I'm sure all the other users are stupid because they are able to use this broken software. And yea, I am also sure that people at Fantastico are stupid as well for including broken software in their package. Or perhaps its just you few people who are stupid that can't get a simple program to work? Lastly, you are going to sign a petition to get the program off the Fantastico package list? hehe. Have you read my news section? I have a post there that says NOT to use Fantastico's implementation  and to download the program directly from here! Also what do you expect that getting removed from Fantastico is going to harm me? Maybe you are not aware, but this is FREE software! I Don't make any money from! I could care less if they drop the program! It would just mean that I'll have to deal with less stupid people and ISPs who come in and moan "appalling and outrageous" without getting to the bottom of the issue.
Here is my sincere suggestion to you people, as human beings. I'm not providing some service here, so I don't have to be professional or anything.. I will be frand and straightforward, however that might feel to you .. I don't care. You just need to learn to appreciate things that you get for free. If you get a car from someone for free, and even if its totally broken.. you can't go and argue about it to the person who gave it to you! If the car is of no use to you, you simply stop using it and move on! Don't assume that its your birth right that you can demand and complain about everything, thats just childish and immature. Therefore, if you do not want to use the program ... stop using and don't post anything else here because you are polluting the forums. If you want to take an action against the program, go ahead and do so.. you do not need to inform me because like I said before, I don't really care.. its not like I'm a millionaire right now because of the program and I will  be on the streets tomorrow if its gone. You will just be messing up the chance for other people to use free software and discouraging developers to offer free software in the first place.

It is incredibly rude to abuse a freeware developer.
If you don't like the program, don't use it.

Wow, quite the soap opera going on here. ;)

I seem to be having a bit of the same problem, but any answers that might have been posted here seem to have been swept aside by the high emotions...I'm hoping to sidestep that and get back to a tech discussion here, if I may.

I dl'd and installed v2.09 without incident (great program, btw). Now, I have only a little exp. with php--call me an intermediate newb--but I seem to be overlooking something here, and would appreciate any help. Here's the deal:

I maintain several sites, each with distinct FTP access (some are subdomains of my main site, other completely independent and self-contained), for which I'd like to create various forms as needed. I installed phpformgen in my main site, and created a gloriously wonderful form w/o a hitch. I copied the forms file to the new location as per instructions in several other threads in this forum and documentation etc etc, but I can't get it to work. Note that the form works great in the original location, but the only thing that shows up when I access the copied version appears to be a sample template, showing two categories named 'sdf' and 'hgkjhf' or somesuch which we all know is programmer's shorthand for 'Example A' and 'Example B' :). Oh, and each cat. had a single checkbox associated with it. This sample form parsed fine, but where did the form I created go? The two form dirs. have identical content, and in my reading the simple copying of the forms dir has always shown up as a solution to the whole 'many forms' question, not a problem in its own right...

Since what knowledge and experience I have are all self-taught, it always seems in situations like this that I get tripped up on the piddly details that are so obvious to everyone (else) that no one ever bothers to write about them in forums like this, heh. I'm fully expecting this to be a simple fix (I hope), but at any rate, any and all assistance is much appreciated.

Well here's the fix. The latest version, v2.09, no longer puts the newly generated form in the "forms" directory. The "forms" directory is now used as a temporary location. The final form and all its associated files are placed under the "use" directory.
        Hope this helps.

      Addendum:
okay, after a bit of poking around, it seems that, within the copied forms file, the process.php doc is showing the proper config for the form I created; the form1.html just doesn't seem to be recognizing it when I try to look at it in my browser. Both files are correctly in the same dir., so it doesn't appear to be a pathway problem...

      Okay, second addendum:

Looks like it may have been something to do with server load or high traffic, cuz it sorted itselfout w/o me doing anything different (that I could tell, anyway).

I did notice that the permissions on the data.dat file needed to be changed, but that took care of everything.

Huzzah! It's working! So grateful for this script, man, thanks a million for all your time. I can only afford to donate about $5 bucks right now (on my way this minute to do so), but I hope people at least take the time to send you a buck or three--that'd add up, wouldn't it?

      :)

The software works. You might not like what the developer has to say, but he is correct. Its quite obvious to anyone that takes the time to read the instructions... Too many stupid, impatient people, too little time to answer each post....

This is a GREAT software. Now, if only I could get the output in HTML, i'd make a donation :)

This is incredible. You know a critic is usually someone who can not do what they criticize with such expertise and passion.

I can not write this simple program but have implemented it to use for my office and everyone things Ali is a genius and they think highly of me. The idea is to get your form up. Simple. Then to get the data and do something with it. I know we all know that, there are so many of us here that are capable, but we complain about Microsoft and we think we should continue. Had we given Microsoft that much grief, perhaps their software would be good for something.

Now Ali has to worry that someone will donate to his site and then think that 5 bucks gives them rights to complain.

      Good luck!

Ali, THANK YOU for creating what most of us wish we did - a highly functional, easily implemented, script.

Folks, aside from some obvious frustration (from a guy who has GIVEN more than most of us), what you see here is a dedicated professional who went about fixing his work, after receiving input from this and other forums.  What's more, he made the improvement within days of release, and feed-back.

I agree with some of the more recent posts.  How can anyone knock the author of freeware?  The least you should do, if you can't make it work, is provide feedback, and engage the community.  The most you should do, if you can't make it work, is stop knocking your head against the wall, and move on to another script - OR - write your own script, and consider sharing it with others.

I just downloaded and installed this script tonight. After a little fiddling, I got it working for its basic purpose.  (Yes, I want to make it work a little differently, but that's my preference, and therefore not Ali's issue.)  I know already that it will save me dozens of hours of work.  That merits a donation from me.  Which, I think, is the least I can do to show my appreciation for the author's efforts.

Musawir... shake it off.  These people who offer nothing more than complaints and whining (trinityc, frschof and kathleenlp) wouldn't know good scripts if one bit them.  You'll note that none of THEM are members of any development teams.  Your script is fine (although I will admit that I just overwrote a form because I didn't see that overwrite coming ;)  Live and learn!

Thanks for all your hard work on this program, dont let the crybabies and naysayers get to you.
