As mentioned above, I do not have fantastico...I don't even know what that is. I have followed all of the instructions for extracting the program and placing it on the server. I have left all directory trees intact. I did not use WinZip (the second time), so that's not the problem.
I use WS_FTP and I selected the main folder, set it to Read/Write/Execute for Owner, Group, and Other (World). I've been all over this forum, and though I can find all kinds of people who used fantastico or WinZip and have a Read/Write problem; I can't find any questions by people like me who used neither and still are getting the error.
All of these directories ARE set to read/write/execute: # The forms directory is not writeable.
# The forms/admin directory is not writeable.
# The use directory is not writeable.
# The forms/admin/config.inc.php file is not writeable.
# The forms/admin/data.dat file is not writeable.
# The forms/form1.html file is not writeable.
# The forms/process.php file is not writeable. Please give
But phpformgen says they're not. Can anyone please, please help me? I'm a newbie, but this looks like a great program if I can get it going.

i'm sure that you arn't setting the permissions properly, there is no other reason for those errors. Infact, I can prove this to you if you provide me with your webserver info. I normally charge $50 for installation of the program, but just to prove the point that its not a bug, I will do it for you for free.

Hello, msuawir...Are you the developer of this program? I must say, you're half-right...but only half. I know how to use the chmod command, and I have. I did change the read/write/execute, and it does show that it is changed. However, I have just now discovered that it will only read changed until I CLOSE the program. Once I open it back up, it's set wrong again. I did hit OKAY.
But before I have you wasting your valuable time going in and fixing it for me, which was a very nice offer (even if it was just to prove your point), could you just maybe help me discover why it won't keep the changes even after I hit OK?
I very much appreciate your time on this, and will be happy to lick my own stinky socks if you prove me wrong. ;-)

Yes I'm the creator/owner of this program.
The reason why I wanted to prove the point was that many people ask this question and they speculate that the program might not be working since they're doing everything correctly.
However, thats not how programs work. They cannot work for some people and not work for others, given everything is setup properly. They either work or don't work at all.
It is very wierd that your server is not retaining the permissions. What "program" are you talking about when you say that when you close it, and open it back up again everything goes back to its original permissions. This shouldn't be happening unless your ISP has set up your webserver in some wierd way. You might want to check with them and clarify.

I never meant to imply (and I thought my post was clear...guess not.) that there was something wrong with the program itself. I was trying to say that whatever I'm doing wrong has nothing to do with that fantastico or WinZip problems. That helps us to move past the obvious and go deeper. I didn't mean to imply fault of the program in any way.
As for the ISP...They are hard to deal with. I know the htpassword was a problem once...I had to call them (it took days) and get them to move it from /usr/local/apache/bin/htpasswd to /htpasswd. I'm not sure why, but a password generator I had wasn't working with it where it was. At that time I was under the impression that I had all of the proper permissions.
'The Program' I was referring to in my earlier post was WS_FTP. I should have specified. In that program, in order to set permissions, you highlight the file/folder, right click, click chmod, then you get your window with options. I've set it to Read/Write/Execute several times on all levels, but after I close WS_FTP and open it again the settings won't stick. They show as stuck for as long as the program is open.
Any suggestions?

I really see no reason why an ftp client would reset the permissions. You can always try using a different ftp client and see if you have the same problem.

I have experience with the Fantastico install problem. There's a simple solution. Fantastico has added an extra third step in the installation process.
Uninstall Phpformgenerator with Fantastico, then reinstall it. Go through the first two steps. At the third step, which says something about securing program directories, STOP! Don't complete the step.
You can then go back to the program via your control panel and configure your form. Everything will be working fine and you won't have to change the permissions at all. You can then password protect the admin directory for security.

Thanks for the advice. However, the problem isn't fantastico-related. I've never heard of that program until I found this program and started to read the posts. Thanks for trying, though. :-)
Musawir,
I will go find a different FTP client and try. I'll let you know if it works.

Musawir, you the man! :-D I got FTP Commander, and even though I had to follow the entire directory tree and type out the chmod command for every single file and folder, it worked. I have no idea why WS_FTP had a problem with what I was doing, but at least we got past it. Thanks so much for the suggestion to grab another FTP client. I'm so used to using WS that I didn't even think of that. Now I get to go and make my first php form without spending hours coding. THANK YOU. :-D

Hi I think I can help a few people with this issue also....
I just spent the last couple hours trying to get my form to work, I was having the same issues listed above.
What it was on my end wasn't the ws_ftp as stated above, but was a directory that was pw protected, which caused a need to log in for any access to that directory "my form page".
Once that was removed, mine worked great! Even with mine that WAS INSTALLED WITH FANTASTICO it works great now.
My only question now is should I protect my folder where the admin part is kept? I tried getting to it from the open net and it wasn't giving me access through the directory structure. What is the best thing to do for this? Thanks, m
ps...love the formgen program.....now if I can figure out where to send the paypal cash.....
