Do you need root acess to install this? I get this error message 401 Unauthorized [ Incorrect User ID or Password, or your account has been disabled. ] but I know the db details are ok. Do you need a user acess and an admin acess? Sam |

You imported the SQL tables without error? Were you prompted for a username and password before you got the 401, if so did you log in with root/esp? You shouldn't need root access to install... -James On Sat, 23 Feb 2002, Samuel Wright wrote: > Do you need root acess to install this? > > I get this error message > > 401 Unauthorized > [ Incorrect User ID or Password, or your account has been disabled. ] > > but I know the db details are ok. Hi After installing PHPESP, I log in, have acess to the management menu, changed passwords, logged back in, fine. When I try to make a survey, I fill in the first page and press continue, and get redirected back to that page. If I manually click on the question (fields ) tab, and fill in that, it redirects me back ot the general survey info page, with the question info in the first line of the general survey info... No error messages Anyone hit this before? Sam Running ESP 1.3 BTW |

Hi Guys, has anyone installed phpesp on a linux box running php4.1.2 ? If so what problems does this version of php create for phpesp? If not, would people consider it a valuable resource? I'm willing to document this (with solutions) and post it on the general list. Regards Kon Angelopoulos |

I am sorry to admit that this message is my responsibility. The reason is when wanting to subscribe to the list that evening, on the subscription page I mistook the first address that came up for the address to subscribe to the list. I should have waited till the next morning, some sleep would have prevented that error. I appologize to all for the inconvenience. Thus the standard footer added by sourceforge - I think it is understandable that sourceforge has to finance its services to the open source community by advertisement - seemed strangely enlarged, even if it was still no more than a footer. All my regards to the people that made possible this interesting tool, I hope my next contribution will be more valuable. Hi I'm hoping someone my be able to help before I go nuts with this problem. To start with I'm running PHPesp on W2k box and I've tried this under IIS and Apache and I keep getting the same error. I have also deleted the phpesp.ini file numerous times and started again just in case I did make a typo. I have a problem with phpesp.ini file and really can't work where I'm going wrong. my initial problem is that I get this error message "I can not find your includes ... check your ini settings " and here is my settings // Main install path ON DISK // (where you unpacked the tar) $ESPCONFIG['prefix'] = 'c:\web\phpesp'; // Base URL for phpESP $ESPCONFIG['base_url'] = 'http://' . $server['HTTP_HOST'] . '\phpesp\admin\include'; // extention of include files $ESPCONFIG['extension'] = '.inc'; Can anyone spot what I am doing wrong? I have also tried replacing the ' with " and putting in \\ ie. "c:\\web\\phpesp"; but to no avail if I change the $ESPCONFIG['include_path'] = $ESPCONFIG['prefix'] . '\phpesp\admin\include'; to $ESPCONFIG['include_path'] = $ESPCONFIG['prefix'] . '\phpesp\admin\include'\; (extra back slash on the end ) I get Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in c:\web\phpesp\admin\phpESP.ini on line 40 Fatal error: Call to undefined function: esp_where() in C:\web\phpesp\admin\manage.php on line 83 And here is the rest of the phpesp.ini. I'm sure this something simple but I just can't get my head around it thanks in advance Mark * Here are all the configuration options. */ // Name of application $ESPCONFIG['name'] = 'phpesp'; // Main install path ON DISK // (where you unpacked the tar) $ESPCONFIG['prefix'] = 'c:\web\phpesp'; // Base URL for phpESP $ESPCONFIG['base_url'] = 'http://' . $server['HTTP_HOST'] . Hi Keith I integrated phpESP into an MPN (MyPHPNuke) research portal (http://rgu- sim.rgu.ac.uk/research/intranet/portal - you have to register to see phpESP working). There were a couple of guys interested in porting to PostNuke but as far as I know there has not been any further development Cheers Nick Ananin ************************************************** On Mon, 17 Feb 2003 18:01:41 -0000, Keith Burke [Experience IT] <kb...@ex...> wrote: > Hi, > > I've been using phpESP for a while now. I am perplexed with this problem and I cannot find anything to explain it. I've created a survey... after editing I've tested... (it works) I've checked the data perfect. I put it Public and go to my link... http://"my host"/phpESP/public/survey.php?name=test (The "my host' part is just to hide my server) I see the form... I'm happy. I submit the survey I get [ Error processing survey: Survey is not active. ] I've enclosed phpESP.ini I started with version 1.6 and got the message... so I dropped my database and my files and tried with 1.5 same error... Hi everyone, I am totally confused about how to allow respondents to authenticate themselves. Where am I supposed to put the commented out example that is in handler_prefix.php? Do you have any tips. I greatly appreciate your help. Sara # $Id: handler-prefix.php,v 1.17 2003/03/04 21:42:33 jimmerman Exp /* When using the authentication for responses you need to include * part of the script *before* your template so that the * HTTP Auth headers can be sent when needed. * * So, create your template file with this as the *first* * line: * <?php $sid=<SID>; include('.../phpESP/public/handler-prefix.php'); ?> * then where you want to include the actual survey use this * line: * <?php inlcude('.../phpESP/public/handler.php'); ?> * * For example, here is a very small template: */ $sid=42; include('public_html/mastersPro/public/handler-prefix.php'); ?> <html> <head><title>Example.com</title></head> <body> <table border="0" width="800"> <tr><td colspan="2"><img src="example-banner.png" border="0" width="800" height="42"></td></tr> <tr> <td><?php include('http://polaris.it.rit.edu/~svf4344/mastersPro/public/handler-prefix.php'); ?> </td> </tr> <tr><td colspan="2"><p align="right"><font size="-2"> Copyright © 2003. Hello, I need some help with viewing a respondents information. Once the user has submitted a private survey, they are unable to view the data again. The administrator can view the resopndents information in the management menu. But is there any way that you as a Power User, you could open the Surveys of a specific user and view the results by using the href links and passing the detials in POST or GET variables (this then would make it possiable to view the survey and detials in its original form, as the respondent would of seen it)? Just need some way to link the page to these submitted surveys and view its contents. Gregg: hi. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Indeed by changing the configuration options for use authentication in the phpESP.ini.php file I was able to resolve the problem. Silly me, I had not changed the MySQL database details! With that change in place, the problem is resolved. Here is a log of the problem and solution. Probably very basic for most phpESP users, but if a newbie stumbled in installation, this might help: Installing phpESP on a webserver running PHP in Apache module instead of CGI Problem: After uploading the software, and going to the admin directory > http://...../phpESP/admin/ > an popped up {Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request} A quick check of test.php showed > PHP information > .... > SAPI: cgi > ..... Gregg informed me that the problem is that phpESP requires PHP to be running in CGI mode. The work around to get it working on PHP running in Apache module is to disable the authentication in the phpESP.ini.php file in the admin directory. The two lines that I changed were the following: > // Use authentication for designer interface (I changed it from true > to false) (BOOLEAN) > $ESPCONFIG['auth_design'] = false; > > // Use authentication for survey responders (I changed it from true to > false) (BOOLEAN) > $ESPCONFIG['auth_response'] = false; > > Then, i created a database one my webserver, and changed the information related to the MySQL host, the username, the password and database name in the same file. Uploading this file to the admin directory and going back to http://....phpESP/admin this time brought up the phpESP management page. Problem solved. One additional problem remains: Protecting the admin directory using htaccess. To protect the admin directory, i used one of the many htaccess password generators available freely on the web. the one i used is http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/htaccess-generator.shtml One generates a script for "htaccess" and an encripted password for the "htpasswd" file using the generator. Both files are saved as text files locally, and uploaded in ASCII format to the admin directory. Once there, the files are renamed to include a "period" before the file name and removal of .txt suffix [ .htaccess and .htpasswd ] which renders the files invisible. The admin directory is now password protected. Thanks for your help. -Sunil |

Can some one please help me. I am trying to put one of my survey into a web page. I finaly figured out that the page had to be a .php page instead of .htm. Ok now I got this to work. But I get the following line at the top of the survey before the survey starts. Is there a way that I can have the results to post on a webpage Thanks Tim Warning: session_start() [function.session-start <http://www.llamashow.com/function.session-start> ]: Cannot send session cookie - headers already sent by (output started at /home/llovinll/public_html/llamashow/judge_page.php:10) in /home/llovinll/public_html/llamashow/phpESP/public/handler-prefix.php on line 57 Warning: session_start() [function.session-start <http://www.llamashow.com/function.session-start> ]: Cannot send session cache limiter - headers already sent (output started at /home/llovinll/public_html/llamashow/judge_page.php:10) in /home/llovinll/public_html/llamashow/phpESP/public/handler-prefix.php on line 57 |

Yes, the default in this file is "/tmp" which typically does not exist on Windows. Make a dirctory on your webserver called "C:\php-tmp" or something, and set session.save_path to that path. For more information on session config directives refer to the following PHP manual page: http://www.php.net/session Also I might as well note that there are problems with PHP running as an ASAPI module for IIS. If you are running under Windows, it is strongly recommended that you run Apache. If anyone does get phpESP to run on Windows with IIS, please let me know, so I can add some information to the documentation. > Is there an archive where I can search for mistakes to > avoid reinventing the wheel? There is an archive, but it is not too useful: http://www.geocrawler.com/redir-sf.php3?list=phpesp-general Perhaps I will make a FAQ or add a better archive when I have time. -James |
