[phpesp-general] Logging into phpesp for the first time

In the past I had used phpESP as a module in phpNuke and I didn't have any problems.  I'm now trying to use the newest version of phpESP as a standalone on a new site I'm desigining.  However, I am trouble making the initial log in to the admin section after the initial install.  I'm using the required username and password (root, esp).  However, it keeps giving me the "expired/disabled" message that has plagued users in the past.

I'm using the stable version and have ensured that everything matched the original CVS files that came out a year or so ago.  Is there any type of "test" I could possible do to see what is causing my problem?  I appreciate any assistance.
