[phpesp-general] http authentication problems

A couple of days ago i posted a msg regarding some authentication
problems I was having with esp.

The web host I'm using has told me they don't run PHP as an Apache
module/library. Rather as a cgi binary. I suspect this may be why I'm
having trouble with http authentication.

Can anyone provide any insight into this?

you can try to view the esp installation i'm setting up here
www.optimumenergy.com/phpesp/admin notice how it redirects to the
/cgi-bin. if you go direct to the manage page
http://www.optimumenergy.com/phpesp/admin/manage.php

username: root
pass: esp

(the default u/p) you can see that the authentication just doesn't
work.
