Initial Comment:
As mentioned in the developer forum, it seems as we agree a tree 
like structure on the left side WITHOUT frames is a really good 
solution to future development.

So how about 
implementing it. May I suggest that Kon who is the designer figure 
something out?

I tried to incorporate a tree structure into the new GUI but it 
simply did not work.
In design terms it left a hell of a lot of real estate empty.

I'll have a look at this for the new gui but can't promise that 
it'll be a tree structure as I don't believe such structures 
should be used as main navigation menus.
