[phpesp-general] locale problems

Hi,
I'm having problems getting the translations to work. I read the previous
messages regarding this, but still didn't succeed.
I use the german translation file out of CVS-
Except for the phpESP.ini File(once again out of CVS, referenced in a
previous post), I use the standard 1.3 package.
System is Debian/sid, apache 1.3.23, php 4.1.2 .
The previously posted code tells me that gettext is loaded and safe_mode
turned off.
any help is appreciated(do i have to change the charset or something?)
