What about a config-option "force-use-vo" and set this to "true" while "voo" isn't in stable.
Later when voo is in stable, voo should become default. But of course: when voo isn't available it should be switched to "vo"... i think this solution would fit all needs, wouldn't it?

Have a look at the latest CVS, things improved much (at least in my humble opinion)
