This is great. Is there documentation on how to implement new variants? Also, most Diplomacy adjudicators share a common map description format file. Even if you don't use this file directly, it might be useful for someone to write a translation utility to turn this format into SQL so that webDiplomacy will be that much closer to supporting 20 or so map variants from nJudge and RealPolitik. DPjudge supports additional variants, but most of those require more code changes than just a new map. Chris |

0.96 fixes bugs and makes optimizations regarding the new live-game feature; allowing instantaneous processing when ready. Bugs and inefficiencies in the new JavaScript order-generation code have been removed, and caching capability has been improved. Several JavaScript tweaks have been made allowing small improvements, e.g. the forum now remembers which individual threads have been read, some CSS tweaks have been made, JavaScript error logging has been made silent, and more preperations for future variant support have been made. Diplomacy is a popular strategy game in which you battle to control Europe, but this isn't a game of luck; to win you must be diplomatic and strategic, making and breaking alliances and bargains. webDiplomacy takes the fight for Europe to the internet. With a complete adjudicator established in 0.8x, 0.90 focuses on improving the user-interface of the site; either making aesthetic improvements, e.g. wide-ranging CSS tweaks, providing more useful information, e.g. the new game-panels and home page, or adding new interface elements, e.g. the new game list search menus. Lots of other smaller features are added, such as e-mail validation, and we have changed the name from phpDiplomacy to webDiplomacy, since the "php" prefix wasn't widely recognizable to players as intended. Changelog: Notable changes are: - New game search menus; - Home page displaying game notices and summary info for all active games/active forum threads; - Richer, more informative, more interactive game panel/summary block - E-mail validation, forgotten password recovery - Country chance balancing, helping to prevent unlucky runs of repeated same countries (while keeping the selection random as the rules state) - More admin control-panel options, and links from the control-panel - Pagination for the game listings and forum pages For a full list of changes see: http://webdiplomacy.net/install/0.82-0.90/readme.txt Play Diplomacy Online: http://webdiplomacy.net/ Play Diplomacy on Facebook: http://apps.new.facebook.com/phpdiplomacy/ Screenshot: http://webdiplomacy.net/doc/0.90-screenshot.png FAQ: http://webdiplomacy.net/faq.php Register a user account: http://webdiplomacy.net/register.php Developer information: http://webdiplomacy.net/developers.php Thanks to everyone who helped make 0.90 what it is, Kestas J. Diplomacy is a popular strategy game in which you battle to control Europe, but this isn't a game of luck; to win you must be diplomatic and strategic, making and breaking alliances and bargains. phpDiplomacy takes the fight for Europe to the internet. The main enhancements in 0.81: - Several bug fixes, work-around for MySQL 5.0.45 join bug - Correct number of build orders bug resolved (wonderllama) - Ability to roll back a turn from the archive - Text based order history - Facebook support (Chris Hughes) - Game listings pagination (Chris Hughes) - User-configurable hours per phase (Chris Hughes) Getting 0.80 running on Facebook meant making things more stable, portable, and configurable, able to cope with even higher loads efficiently, and adding extra features. 0.81 has benefited from that, and is a much more stable 0.80 with a couple of popular extra features. Diplomacy is a popular strategy game in which you battle to control Europe, but this isn't a game of luck; to win you must be diplomatic and strategic, making and breaking alliances and bargains. phpDiplomacy takes the fight for Europe to the internet. The main enhancements in 0.80: - A fully DATC compliant adjudicator, full support for the official rules - All moves are now displayed on the map - PHP 4 code upgraded to PHP 5 - MySQL-specific database optimizations and performance enhancements - In-depth documentation added throughout code - New AGPL share-alike license to replace the BSD license It has been over a year since the last release, and 0.75 has been phpDiplomacy's most successful release by far. 0.80 is an update which reflects the massively increased user-base with a complete adjudicator and map, and huge improvements to performance under load. Thanks to the users at phpdiplomacy.net for testing, the people who donated, and the webmasters who helped bring phpDiplomacy to more people. phpDiplomacy.net is back online. I've been told many new MySQL servers have been added to the cluster and so there should be reduced load. The host I'm on has two weeks before my guarantee runs out, so if the slowness returns before then I'll be moving servers. Sorry about this, eventually things will stabilize. Regards, Kestas |

phpDiplomacy 0.72 Released. Diplomacy is a popular board game in which you battle to control Europe, but this isn't a game of luck; to win you must be diplomatic and strategic, forming and breaking alliances and bargains. phpDiplomacy takes the fight for Europe to the internet. ------------------- phpDiplomacy's development has slowed, being inactive for months now as opposed to the constant development last year, due to work and study. There's not much new in this release; phpDiplomacy went down in January because of a recurring, elusive bug in the scheduling code. This bug has long since been fixed with a rewrite of the scheduling code, but not much else has changed. Over the year lots of people have expressed interest in the project, and signed up to the mailing list, however there's currently not enough time to develop this project to the same degree as last year. 0.72 is mostly complete, there are no glaring ommissions; so, instead of developing it further, effort will only go into maintaining and debugging 0.72 for the time being. If you are interested in developing phpDiplomacy here is what's left to do before 1.0: - 'History' UI improvement - Improve forum thread ordering - Automatic unit placement for users which don't finalize - Images for help files - More thorough help files - Adjudicator improvement - Full translation support - Improve e-mail system ------------------- Official phpDiplomacy server: [ http://phpdiplomacy.kuliukas.com/ ] Screenshot: [ http://phpdiplomacy.kuliukas.com/doc/0.72shot.png ] FAQ: [ http://phpdiplomacy.kuliukas.com/faq.php ] Register a user account: [ http://phpdiplomacy.kuliukas.com/register.php ] Complete changelog: [ http://phpdiplomacy.kuliukas.com/doc/changelog.txt ] The main improvements in 0.72: - Several bug fixes - Simpler, cleaner game scheduling code - UI improvements Thanks to everyone who helped make 0.72 what it is, regards, Kestas J. phpDiplomacy 0.5-Stable has made massive amounts of progress all round, some of the most major improvements: - phpDiplomacy is object based, making it easier to maintain and change. - phpDiplomacy has been made much easier for newcomers. - phpDiplomacy has been audited and debugged much more thoroughly than previous releases. This is the first stable release of phpDiplomacy, and it should be a great foundation to build on; use the links below to see where phpDiplomacy is headed, Kestas J. Hello. I just installed the 0.5 beta and had to modify line 37 of register.php in order to allow users to register. The line was missing a second `)' towards the end of the line. It should now look like this: if(isset($_POST['newpass']) AND isset($_POST['newpasschk'])) { Hope this helps. -Mike |

Released phpDiplomacy Beta, two weeks after alpha was released and five weeks after the project started. Follow the link below to see Beta in action under the testuser account; and follow the links to the right to register your own account and set up your own game. The edges are a bit rough but hopefully it'll give you an idea of what phpDiplomacy is aiming towards. Revised the way move orders are resolved, rewrote modeseven.php and modefive.php to use the new $orders, improved board.php support for retreats and unit creation/destruction, changed install.php to store the configuration in a more secure way, major debugging and UI tweaking all around. phpDiplomacy is now useable and relatively stable, beta will be released next week. |

Rewrote the method by which board.php orders are stored, retrieved and updated. It's basically a much better alternative to the previous hacked-together method. Happy new year. |

Various updates-2004-12-21 18:20 Completed mode four and five, started mode six, revised board.php to add better support for multiple modes, rewrote terrstats() to make board.php lighter, and added support for supply centers. Gamemaster alpha-2004-12-22 18:11 gamemaster.php made alpha, fixed a few board database errors involving coasts, and entered the map co-ordinates of each territory into the board database. Added support for the rest of the game modes in board.php. The map and some debugging are all that's left before phpDiplomacy-alpha is released. |
