hi,
as i could not find any information that helped me about this. is it allowed to take phpDiplomacy as a basis for an own project which bases on the basic diplomacy-ruleset but put in some other gaming-possibilities into it, like more then 7 players, additional units and a different map and put on an online public server?
under what kind of license is phpDiplomacy and can i have additional parts i program under another license - like creativecommons?
cheers
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
The deal is if they insisted I changed the name and removed the Diplomacy resemblance I'd be obliged to, and so would you, but the owners of Dip have been actively involved with online Diplomacy hobbyists since the internet has been around
That having been said I'd be careful if I was planning to make money from it; they didn't like Scrabulous too much

Hi,
phpDiplomacy is under the AGPL license, which just means any derivatives have to also be under the AGPL, and the code has to remain open source
You can add compatible licenses, but you can't remove the AGPL license. If you're planning to keep it open source it should be no problem
Regards,
Kestas
I have another question: What is the deal with the copyright of the game diplomacy (the hardcopy)?
