Remember phpDiplomacy isn't yet 1.0, it's still very much development software.
The release that's zipped up in sourceforge isn't kept up to date with bugs (though I don't think there are any critical bugs in it), and the CVS source may require database changes to be performed manually and phpdiplomacy.net specific stuff, and is generally for experts.
