I seek for rise up a complete web-based solution for playing Diplomacy. So, since phpDiplomacy seem to be the mode advanced, there's some chances that I will join you for help to improve it... Only, although a free licence is necessary for help phpDiplomacy to diffuse, why put it under BSD instead of GPL ?
Sincerely, if I work on it, I don't want to see a site like http://www.diplomatie-online.net feel free to include some parts of phpDiplomacy whitout counter part neither any redistribution...
It's posssible to consider a switch to GPLv2 ?
PS : sorry for my poor english.

Hello, I already sent you this by e-mail, but thought I'd post the reply here too as it has been asked before and probably will be again. :)

I prefer BSD for its simplicity, and the fact that it protects the
software in every way I want it to. If someone takes phpDiplomacy and
makes it so much better that they get more users, or can even sell it,
then it must be a big improvement, and I say good for them.

Using GPL doesn't mean people have to share the source. They would
only have to share the source *if they distribute the code*; using
your own private installation you can change the code without having
to redistribute it, whether it's GPL or not.

Nope, I don't see any reason to. If that means you won't be working on
phpDiplomacy then I'm sorry to hear that, but I can't change the
license every time another developer comes along. :( (Especially when
the developer only says he will develop, I've had lots of developers
saying they will develop but only a handful have come through.)
