activate your nick - email don't work

Your email address must work, this is so you can activate your nick

I install files.
Updated files with my settings:

config.php
cron.php
\modules\config.php

But email I didn't get emails.

FreeBSD.
php 4.2.3
MySQL 3.23

And is there any documentations
