#7 first step error

Ive tried everything to connect the database and
still cant get past the first part of the install.
i made the database before i did anything
then i chmod the 3 files to 777
then i try to rin the install and put in the username and
password for database and it give me the error cant
conect to database. its driving me nut can someone
help me please..... please email me

set your name as "root" and password to "", and you should
be able to connect to database

I have the same problem, and can't fix it eighter!
I have a sql database where i can't change the user name
And it is hosted at lycos.

Is there someone who can help me ???
