Ben,

Look at include.php: You first set handle_db_error() to handle any 
database errors, then you query for the configuration variables, and 
finally create the $t object. Clearly show_text() can be called before 
$t exists in this case. I'd suggest the attached patch to at least get a 
meaningful error message.
