trouble installing 1.0rc2

Has anyone successfully installed 1.0rc2 yet? I have been using 0.9.0 and 0.9.1 for a long time, so no server settings have changed... But when I untar the 1.0 tarball and navigate to install.php I just get the logo image and nothing else...
Any hints?
