As you might have seen, there has been no activity with this project for a very long time. For that reason, I "close" it.
Files will stay where they are, but questions will not be answered any more.
Cheers,
Ralf
Some emails that arrived in my mailbox asked the question if phpAlumni is still supported by me. The answer is YES, it is still supported, but the development will continue at a very slow speed. Luckily, phpAlumni is pretty much stable at its current version 1.2.1, but some improvements are still pending.
A new and easy template driven version is in the making which will also include language files which can easily be exchanged. Unfortunately I can't promise when those features will be implemented.... read more
The service release 1.2.1 of phpAlumni was uploaded today. It fixes the issue that users being invited by "tell a friend" could not log-in and birthday dates in a users' personal profile not being saved.<p>
Please do not forget to visit the new project homepage on http://www.phpalumni.org!<p>

After a long time of no updates to phpAlumni, today the new release V1.2 is out! The main improvement was to change the internal handling of variables in order to make phpAlumni run with "register_globals=off". This had been a main concern in the previous versions. Furthermore, user input is now filtered to avoid the infusion of HTML and PHP code. Have Fun!!!
Dear users of phpAlumni,
After a terrible delay, version 1.2 of phpAlumni is on the SF tryout-server right now. The main change in the new version is the user of superglobal variables. These will permit phpAlumni to run on servers that have register_globals=off as most commercial server have so safety reasons.
Please hang on, the new version is just around the corner!
Ralf
Sorry but work is keeping me busy from finishing the latest V1.2 of phpAlumni. Pleas stand by for more news.
Ralf
Dear users of phpAlumni,
as many of you encounter the problem of "register_globals" being turned off on your webservers, I am right now working on a version of phpAlumni to deal with that. It will purely rely on superglobal variables, making it work on "register_globals" being turned "on" or "off".
The user part of the scripts is already finished, right now I am working on the admin part. While doing this, some smaller fixes were also made. So please stand by for phpAlumni V1.2, which will hopefully be released at the end of July 2004.... read more
As work is keeping me very busy and the popularity of "phpAlumni" is on the rise, the project is looking for PHP/MySQL developers who would like to contribute to this project.
The main tasks of fellow programmers would be to get major and minor corrections done on the code. As a second step, new features will be added to the software in order to make alumni management even more cheerful.
If YOU are interested in contributing to "phpAlumni", please drop me a line!
This release fixes the dead link from the birthday list to a member's details. Not more, not less. ;-))
Being an alumni myself now, I am pretty busy with my first job. Unfortunately this has an effect on the development of phpAlumni.
As soon as I find time, I will fix the bugs that were reported to me (e.g. birthday-list bug) and implement new features such as separate language files or the possibility to upload a mugshot into the personal profile.
phpAlumni is an online portal system for alumni from universities or other similar institutions. It features member directory, jobfair, forum and many other functions which make it easy to build an "old boys network".
phpAlumni is written in PHP4 and backed by a MySQL database. All pages are based on CSS and use templates to separate logic from layout. This makes it easy to customize the look and feel to a site's particular needs.... read more
Definitely not one of the most important things, but I created a good logo for phpAlumni. Check it out on the testinstallation or download the 0.9.5 release. This one also contains some small cosmetic improvements.
If you want to put the logo somewhere else on your phpAlumni site, please make it a link to http://phpalumni.sourceforge.net! Thank You!
The new version of phpAlumni features a "state" field in home and company address (THX Don!). Secondly, the "birthday" field now offers an example on how to enter the date.
Furthermore, I removed occasional borders around gifs, which appear in Netscape and IE but not in Konqueror.
Long awaited, now it's there! The Jobfair is ready and included in the 0.9.4 release. Furthermore, a MySQL DB optimization button was added to the admin menue.
This release fixes a missing navigation element in the members view. Now you can browse through long lists of members with ease.
Version 0.9.2 is available for download now! The authentification flaws of former versions were removed and the whole package is stable now. Check out the online version (http://phpalumni.sourceforge.net) now hosted on Lycos/Tripod - phpAlumni is easy to setup, even on add-sponsored servers.
A fixed version is now online and can be tested at http://phpalumni.sourceforge.net/phpalumni/ . If no error are reported by you, I will release the files during the next week.
The authentification process in V0.9.1b has a backdoor allowing users to access data they are not allowed to see.
DO NOT USE PHPALUMNI IN A PRODUCTION ENVIRONMENT YET!!!
I already sketched a solution which I will implement in the following days.

Due to a lot of ugly bugs, I released an update and opened a CVS tree. There is still a session problem and I hope I can fix it ASAP.
Bye,
Ralf
The beta of phpAlumni was released today! Install it on your servers and report any errors. Right now I am working on a website where phpAlumni can be tested online.
Bye,
Ralf
The first release of phpAlumni will happen at the end of May 2002. Please stay tuned!
