This is ridiculous here so I will just have to email the popscript site and if they do nothing then we will have to mail something.....

This is what i submitted to them and awaiting a response.

This is a cease and desist order to stop selling out open source software located at http://www.popscript.com/scripts/php-design-code-a/social-networking/php-spacester/prod_745.html as it is protected under the GNU GPL.

If this product is not taken off of your site we will us necessary means to have it removed and your site taken down. Prozilla won and so will we. Dont think we don't know about your history of selling other peoples products.

          The GNU GPL states:

"You may copy and distribute verbatim copies of the Program's
source code as you receive it, in any medium, provided that you
conspicuously and appropriately publish on each copy an appropriate
copyright notice and disclaimer of warranty; keep intact all the
          notices that refer to this License and to the absence of any warranty;
and give any other recipients of the Program a copy of this License
          along with the Program.

You may charge a fee for the physical act of transferring a copy, and
you may at your option offer warranty protection in exchange for a fee."

You can sell any GPL'd code, as long as you do not remove the copyright, and allow users to distribute it under the GPL. Therefore, your cease and desist order is invalid.

Yeah it may say this or that but all in all it is not only sorry but just plain lazy. Why not spend your own time planning, developing, debugging, designing, and everything else that we have to do and have more pride in your work. Atleast have the decency to pay someone else to do the work for you. I don't want or really expect you to reply back to me as I really don't care to hear anything else lame out of you.

      However, I will reply.

It doesn't matter how lame or lazy it is -- the point is, under the GPL, they can do it. As a coder, I would never *want* anyone to do that to me, but the thing is, that's one of the perils of licensing things under the GPL.

Yeah as a coder..... you are not a coder so you would not really know how it feels as a coder. If you would not want anyone to do that to you then why would you do it to others? Anyways I forsee as the more you do this the more your site will earn its bad name and that wont help tou rise in the internet world.

And what exactly convinces you I am not a coder? I'm THE ONLY DEVELOPER FOR THE PROJECT THIS IS FORKED OFF OF! What do you thni I am, then.

I am not wishing this upon you, I am only telling you there is really nothing you can do as they are not doing anything illegal. Immoral, yes, but not illegal.

Ok I was thinking that you were the one that was running this popscripts site. Sorry for the coder comment. Yes I have read and seen where it is so much more not illegal but do agree it is immoral. I think the GPL needs to be updated for creeps like this.

No, I develop AstroSPACES. Yes, I agree, and I hope GPL Version 3 has something against that.

My only advice is to get links for php-spacester to your pages, as most people who buy something Google it first to find out about it, and they'll quickly discover that is a GNU project. You may even want to cough up the cash and download it and see if your copyright is still there, as if it is not it is copyright infringement.

I see popscripts is offering many pirated scripts and also have a page telling people to be aware of such pirates... I agree they are the pirates.

I also see they are offering PHP-Spacester as a Free Download now.
