Hi,
[apache fails to start]
okay, I will remove the deprecated java extension from the source.
Please use the pure Java version of the PHP/Java Bridge.

The documentation is not really clear on how to do this.
All I want to do is be able to use lucene from inside PHP.
on ubuntu this is very easy because I just install the deb packages and the extension gets install and run correctly.

on RedHat and Fedora there's a security policy. If you install the bridge via RPM (rpmbuild -tb php-java-bride*.tar.gz), it will install/run without any problems.
I have removed the java.so; since version 5.4 the RedHat and Fedora RPM's require Tomcat as a back end.
